Fan of Fake Fur Vest

My Number One Fan (mom) is in town, and we went shopping today. Here's what we both loved a lot at Zara:

But here's what's a little scary:

No hooks, no button, no snaps to keep this from falling open and making you look like you picked that baby rug off the floor and threw it over your shoulders. You know, that rug that every mom has for her newborn?

#1 Fan said "just put some velcro on there," pointing to a shoulder, but she's a farmer's daughter and they're big fans of the cheap fix-it. I was a little horrified, thinking of the damage velcro would do. You'd soon have a raggedy-looking fake fur vest. But, if you want this look for a good price ($79), just sew in a hook & eye.

Here's what the expensive one that I really want looks like, thanks to gnarlitude.com.

nb: it's been a long time since I've shopped w/#1 Fan, and it actually crossed my mind at one point to start cajoling her to buy me this (I'm on spending lockdown). Just like the old days: "Puhleeze, #1 Fan, I'll dust the house for a month!" (knowing damn well I was going to do no such thing). But, unfortunately, I'm at the stage in life where it's just unseemly to be begging your mom for fur vests. So I buried that thought and maintained a little adult pride. For those of you young enough, start practicing cute, needy looks in the mirror.

Zara, 39 W. 34th between 5th & 6th

I love that fuzzy vest thing. It looks like it might meow (or growl).

That thing is so wacky, I don't even know what to say about it. Except that I love it!

AHAHAHAH i love what you said about cajoling your mom. anyway, that vest looks so cool!!

you know what you can do is add a patent leather belt to it, or for something easy, use a safety pin! not those puny small ones, but get one from a craft shop that's bigger and more substantial, and you can even get a white or black pin that is kinda huge and would look like a brooch.

or just use a brooch to pin the flaps together! of course, the hook and eye works great too!

it looks amazing i want one. hhahah. WHEN is this stupid hot summer ending! i'm so over it!

tried this on at the Zara on 34th Street @6th Ave.
thanks, gilda, GREAT ideas, I esp. like the patent leather belt or pin.
And I agree with all, it's kind of scary but irresistible.

It looks a littlre freaky to me, but I like it?

yes, secretista, you do like it! Repeat after me, YOU LIKE IT. And I think i'm buying it, if forever 21 across the street doesn't have something similar for $50 less, that is.

How about a jeweled brooch to keep it cinched? I love it!

That reminds me so much of mary-kate olsen last year when she use to wear her fur vest a lot!

It certainly is awesome....but yeah, needs a closure of some kind! I have a shawl I sometimes fasten with a brooch, but this would be too thick for that. Maybe some hooks? The fuzzy material would hide them anyway!

I would LOVE to wear that thing if I were 30 years younger.

SW - that's kind of what stopped me from buying it immediately. how does one know when to stop wearing fur vests??

Weird, but I love it!!!
And I've seen the "expensive one", gorgeous.

the Zara I've been had nothing in "fur", such a pity....

It can create such an individual look! I wonder how it looks with a really tight belt. I don't it may look bulky now, but it may look ok for colder weather xxxxxxx
