A Little Sperry Love

A favorite, recurring conversation in my household is the fantasy boat-living scenario. This involves a big, old sailboat (him) with lots of closet space and a big bathroom (me), a quaint and inexpensive dock with a gym and spa, ideally on the Manhattan side of the river but that's negotiable (us), and a smooth land-to-water transition for the cats (do cats even like boats?). I also plan on getting in really good shape on my boat home; you know, "sea legs" and all.

Now you understand the "fantasy" part.

Thus, when Melissa sent me these Sperry Topsiders from Lady Foot Locker on 34th Street, I was ecstatic.

I also got a very sweet and functional pair of Nikes (above, my casual shoes, worn every day around the house, as you can see) and a kick-ass pair of Converse that are totally me. But the Topsiders? Bravo! The perfect never-would-have-picked-these-out-myself but totally love them shoe. They are nerdy, preppy cute and very comfortable. And they'll come in handy on my future boat home.

While we're talking about Foot Locker, I'd be remiss to not show you these Sesame Street New Balance:

Get a jump on those back-to-school sneaks for your nieces and nephews. Personally, I'm more of an Oscar the Grouch kind of girl, although the Cookie Monster and I were pretty tight, too.

Dear Miss Fashion,

TOPSIDERS?!

It would seem apparent from today's post that you are remarkably flexible and open in your fashion aesthetic, whereas yours truly remains remarkably rigid, almost incapable of ditching the twin-set and pearls.

Do you believe there is hope for lost fashion souls?

TP

PS: The titles 'New Balanc'e & 'Sesame Street' together just somehow seems wrong, but I do like the Elmo ones... how weird is that?

My niece would love these, but for 10 year olds or less only!

sorry, xmastime, I'll dumb it down for you next time.
yes, TP, it's amazing, right?! perhaps i'm mellowing in my old age? but I'm not insinuating that this means you'll be wearing studded belts with those pearls, no indeed.!
farren, you HAVE to buy him some of this, we saw little baby ones in Foot Locker yesterday!
imelda, we must know very similar people.

I haven't worn TopSiders since I was 12, and that was a loooong time ago! I love your shoe picks here.

the posh ads were fabulous! i really liked the ones before this one, the m.i.a. ones. although some of the outfits they put her in weren't too great. same with this one actually. i've seen some of the other ads with cole in it and they aren't that great. these seem to be the two best ones.

sweetass topsiders! do they come in navy?

btw, do you have any word about that multilevel 40,000+ sq. foot retail space that's undergoing construction where the footlocker near bway is? it's got a giant scaffolding covering the storefronts of at least 6-8 stores. i just noticed it today and thought, oh, what a great place if topshop could take all that space.

i'm asking around the office, but it may be too early to tell.
thanks for spreading the topshop karma round the site. maybe i should start a petition, or call my senator?
