Straight is Boring*

A few haircuts ago, my stylist (S) gave me a bunch of product. It really comes in handy to have a friend/stylist that travels the world training & doing fashion shows. Because she's always got oodles of product. And, taking pity upon my growing-out phase, she gifted me with a lot of Redken.

If you're like me, you're thinking "Redken? Old school!" But this is not ye olde Redken. This is a product that makes my life easy in the morning. And people, I'm LAZY; I don't like spending a lot of time on my hair. So if I'm not dry shampooing, I'm using this:

align 12 ultra-straight balm

align 12 ultra-straight balm

"discipline, protect and strengthen unruly hair"

Those big numbers are based on a system of, well, numbers. Low to high=low maintenance to major styling control. Anyway, math is hard, so let's just talk about Align. I rub a little in and blow it out with a brush for a bit. My hair gets pretty damn straight fast, and I don't flat iron after unless I want it stick straight. Plus it doesn't look too flat and it holds all day, even in this summer city weather.

Here's the Redken website, and here's the product I want S to give me next. It's from Redken's Urban Experiment line, "hairwear for style innovators":

8 wool shake cotton-infused gel slush

8 wool shake cotton-infused gel slush

"Unleashes volume with unrefined texture and a wool-like top coat"

What the *@$#? Have these product development people gone mad? Woolly hair? Cotton-infused gel slush?? I need some now!

Find Redken products on 34th Street at:

Peter And Company,
45 E. 34th between Park & Madison

Ahh, totally forgot Redken existed! I would use, but I have super curly hair...which I wouldn't trade for the world haha.

Not saying their taste is too refined but their marketing tactics are most savvy. The wooly hair bit definitely caught my attention!

I really want to try the straightning balm, it seems like it would be good for fly aways.

Hmm...any idea of how this stuff works on relaxed black hair? I'd love to cut my hair in a more interesting style but I'm lazy just like you and my hair frizzes so easily that it would end up looking awful! I need something like this that would keep it straight.

"Wool like top coat"?!? I'm horrified and delighted at the same time!

Really funny about the wool-like top coat! I don't really want my hair to look like wool though...

I want to try the 12 in Florida. I love Redken's Anti-Snap. Have you tried? Great for fine hair.

Perhaps those with the extremely straight, fine, silky hair want to go wild and wooly once in awhile??? Kinda like beach hair? Hmmm.......sounds more like homeless person hair to me....or reminds me of an extremely matted cat.

hmmm...wool-like hair is best avoided or so I've been told.

but do you think it's like this new, messy, frizzy editorial hair you're seeing in mags?? I remember liking the messy hair on the runway for fall...but wooly? Very intrigued!
