A Trench Story*

Could this H&M short trench be the one?

By Divided, and $59.90. Cute, but do I want a short trench? Thank god S is cutting my hair tonight. Hello, wine hangover.

Umm, what's up with that button in the back? It's weird. But I have a bad button history. That's for another day.

I wish I could afford a classic Burberry, because I want to look very Julie Christie ala "Heaven Can Wait" mourning by the grave. As I remember it, she wore this trench:

And was all bereft over Warren Beatty. Who she dated for a long time. For you younguns, here some more photos from warrenandjulieforever.bravehost.com. Seriously.

Warren worked some major fur in his prime. That's Julie hidden under that crazy bear-like coat. I love her hair.

More from "Heaven Can Wait." I know, panned by the critics, bad remake, blahblah but I'll always love this film thanks to Julie.

Here's Julie hot with an adorable cap AND Francois Truffant on the set of Fahrenheit 451 drinking wine. Now don't you want to be her?

H&M, 34th & 6th @ Herald Square

*Remember when fashion people used to always say "____ story?" Like a plaid story, or a velvet story. Maybe they still do, I wouldn't know because I have a pile of magazines and WWD's I haven't touched in weeks. Had to wrench my September Vogue out of Jeffrey's hands after he (GASP!) unwrapped it "for me." Yeah, right.

Hi there-I remember about 7 years ago I had a thrifted Burberry trench and a girl told me I looked like Inspector Clouseau!! I got rid of it shortly after that!! But saying that, I'm much less blinded by what people think nowadays-I do dress for me regardless what others think of my style!

Who dares to dis Heaven Can Wait? I love that movie. I had a bunch of store idiots say stuff to me about "a story" recently.

if the price is right and it's a good fit I'll say it's good to have a trench like that. It doesn't have to be the 'genuine' article. Trenches are always handy. You can make it formal or casual so the trench I bought at Target when they had a huge sale turned out to be one of my most treasured pieces. :)

thanks all, I'm tempted by it but I think I want a longer trench.
savvy - i think i'd have to encourage that discussion as a friend has a burberry and it's a classsic.
sharon - oh, misspent youth! I bet there's another thrifted burberry in your future. you should blog that story, it's a good one.
wendy - you know, the "experts," movie critics! I had such a crush on warren beatty after HCW.
songy - hmm, I'm checking out Target!
yay dapper k! hope you're feeling better.

i love that trench on you. but if you're looking for a burberry trench -- not that i'm encouraging you to cheat on 34th street but -- there's a temporary burberry sample sale at woodbury commons right now where people have been finding $250 trenchcoats. i think it goes on til the end of september.

The trench coats looks awesome :) I wish we are able to wear them in Singapore! It is summer all year round :(

yes, BD, I can see how you'd want some color, I see a retro trench? But I don't have even a basic trench! Sad.
eeps - cheat on 34th Street again? Wouldn't that make me a.... Anyways, great info, thanks. woodbury commons is generally worth the trouble.
yiqin - it's ok to brag about Singapore weather now, but come December we don't want to hear it, K?!!!

Julie Christie was never more lovely and luminous than in Heven Can Wait! I will never, ever tire of that movie.

Get a normal length trenchcoat, please, I promise you won't be sorry!

oooh. i hate when jackets have that little pleat at the back but it's sewn shut! is there a reason for that because i have no idea what they're there for but they tend to just not look flattering on me. =/ lucky it does on you! the short trench is amazing!

what's with the random button? I imagine someone's thought 'hmmm, we've over ordered on the buttons and we need to get rid of them. I know, lets sew the surplus on the trench' It looks so out of place.

That is a cute little trench! Banana Republic also has a great one for $225 if you haven't checked it out yet.

Oh, Julie Christie & Warren Beatty. Sigh.

You are *so there*, you really are!
