Updating Unmentionables

I had a request for some Valentine's Day posts involving, you know, sexy unmentionables, and I must comply. In fact, I will dive in and cover lingerie on 34th Street.

This is also inspired by the man I'm married to, who, whenever I'm tossing unmentionables around when looking for practical tights, asks "Why don't I ever see those?" Um, because other guys bought them for me, baby! Isn't that bad karma? Besides, it's not like there's La Perla in there. It's time to toss them and start over.

So for those of you who, like me, need a little lingerie updating, I'll start with Victoria's Secret. The store at Herald Square is the flagship and it really shows. There is a great selection of everything unmentionable on the first floor with a varied price range. Naturally Flora Nikrooz has some red nighties in store for this very red holiday:

Woo la la! I like how the first one ($178) has the burlesque-ish hanging ribbons, it feels very saloon Wild West. And the one on the right ($168) is very sheer and romantic.

And there's the black stuff. I'm particularly fond of the ruffle confetti pieces. Short one is $168 and the long one is $198. Sorry about the bad pictures, if you want a big dressing room go upstairs to the second floor. I was in a tiny closet on the first floor.

$168. Flora Nikrooz has beautiful detailing on her pieces.

Next week, I'll show some Sexy Little Things. Really, Sexy Little Things is an impressive and lower-priced line for VS that's got some saucy unmentionables you'll be eager to share this Valentine's Day.

From Stilettos to Sneaks

Although most girls getting ready for fashion week aren't thinking kicks, I'd like to remind them that after a few days of standing around in these (Bakers "Eliot" on 34th Street, $79.95):

They will be having romantic fantasies about these:

The new Asics gel sneakers available in Foot Locker on 34th Street in February. Other cute colors:

Don't be ashamed, sneaker fantasizing is perfectly normal behavior for those of us who use mass transportation, wait in hour-long lines, and aren't immediately rushed to front row seats. People aren't looking at your shoewear in SRO, kids.

For you fashion show attendees from out of town who proudly wave the sneakerhead flag, I encourage you to visit Foot Locker on 34th Street. We're talking ginormous walls of sneakers. And if you're up for a little sightseeing, visit Foot Locker's House of Hoops in Harlem on 125th Street right down the block from the Apollo Theatre. Check out the Foot Locker blog for House of Hoops releases. I'm really into the Lebron VI Chalk, and it has nothing to do with my Lebron crush, I swear.

Dr. Pouf

I think it's a good spring omen that I had fun in the dressing room at H&M Herald Square yesterday. I'm not saying poufy skirts are a balm for the winter/recession/lay-off/jobs-being-threatened-daily blues, but they're definitely a little Dr. Feelgood.

Cute saucy tulip skirt that demands the pose.

More serious, thus requiring one awkward blogger pose.

The sleek sweatshirt pouf. I was a little obsessed w/blue scarf.

A big flirt, the peasant pouf. WARNING: see below right, is dangerous from behind!

All of the above are $34.90 - $39.90, which helps further ease the recession blues.

Oui, Sandals

I was first alerted to the new spring Gap Pierre Hardy's on White Lightning and Racked. They should be in stores for spring, but the red and green below are online exclusives.

Love? Yes, tough to chose a color although I'm partial to the green. And then I scrolled down the page and did a double take:

Spring Gap sandals, $39.50, and not, presumably, by Pierre Hardy, but perhaps a bit inspired by his former Gap contributions:

As cute as last year's Pierre's? Non! But it does make one wonder how many variations of the gladiator sandal can be designed. Looks like we'll be finding out this coming season.

Arff: Back in Black

We saw it earlier in red, and last Friday I spotted it (haha) in Daffy's Herald Square in black. Now reduced to $66-ish:

But if dog sweaters aren't your thing, perhaps shiny bronze-gold boots (oh DEER! $109) do it for you?

Or these:

Then there's the other clothing reductions on the 6th floor. I got grey Radcliffe jeans now marked down to $15 because I practically sleep in my black ones. I also spotted an Alexander McQueen grey sweatshirt on the clearance rack, but it had a little hole on the front so I didn't try it on, but for $30 + I'm thinking of going back and mending it.

Callixta leggings, Tracy Reese top, Radcliffe jeans.

The Payless Spring Revue

I was practically singing and dancing on the second floor of Payless on 34th Street last evening. Across the street and safe from the free makeup queue outside Macy's Herald Square, I was yet again freaking out the sweet Payless salesgirls with my mirror shoe photography.

alice + olivia get best in show:

Patent sling wedge w/ square toe. You can't underestimate the height of alice + olivia wedges.

Sing it, "FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN." Pink leopard sling wedge? FUN. Not yet online.

Also not online are my absolute favorites, this perfect platform-heeled, sling strapped, shoe-boot thing. I was speaking in tongues when I first tried them on.

Can't forget the Abaete's, the would-be star of the show. I'm afraid they underwhelmed.

The gladiator sandal, see the baggy strap on the left? That was not in Lucky mag.
I'd also like to see the light blue version from the runway show, which would be great for spring's ubiquitous pastels.

The following really suffered from bad wardrobe. But I could not take stockings off on the floor of Payless and make the salesgirls run screaming.

Really need to go barefoot with these beige ones, & a mesh mule is no mesh bootie.

Perhaps later in the season we'll see the fabulous mesh boot? I'm just not a mule girl as we've got a bad history. Also, that Abaete heel is 4 inches and it makes a girl teeter. Honestly it doesn't feel like it can hold me up for long.

All in all, definitely a good show at Payless. I'm now going to get all shoe groupie on the hopefully incoming Patricia Field for Payless spring collection. I love how her shoes are released on a totally different schedule from the other designer collections. Obviously the diva of the show.
