You Are Not Your Own Party City

The man who's been bossing me around at home lately? This guy:

My favorite part is at the end of the workout when he says, in serious military voice: "Workout complete. Good job." It's  at once ridiculous and gratifying.

Why am I into this book and it's accompanying, awesome iPhone app? Because I have not been able to get to the gym since I've had Baby Herald. This means I've also had Baby Herald gut since I've had Baby Herald. I love me some Baby Herald, but the gut, not so much.

This app enables me to work out at home in under 40 minutes, four times a week, doing exercises that are challenging but not at all impossible. Best, I don't have to remind 18-year-old boys at the gym that they should let me work in on the machine, I don't have to worry about my obscenely tight yoga pants, and I can work out while watching Baby Herald draw on walls, pull utensils out of kitchen drawers, or torture Chad Pennington (the cat, not the ex-Jets QB). I'm OK with all of the former as long as Chad Pennington isn't howling.

Here is where I'd link to a bookstore where you can buy this book on 34th Street, but there are how many bookstores on 34th Street? Zero. This is where I'd lament the death of the bookstore but this post is rambling enough already. What can you now find on 34th Street? Party City. Yes, Party City is now open and they are not joking, it is seriously a city of party. You can be your own gym, but do not be your own Party City. Make your life easy and go to 34th and Seventh Avenue and get everything under the sun you could possibly need for your next party, including banners, because Party City has a BANNER STATION. It's not a bookstore, but a banner station is damn convenient.

The sign says it all, and yes, there is a candy room.

Summer Menu Items at 'wichcraft

It's lunchtime, I'm starving, I'm posting sandwiches! Below is Intern LCogs review of the new summer items available now at our 'wichcraft kiosks at Bryant Park, our sister company, and in Herald and Greeley Square Parks (chicken salad only at H&G).

Mmmm, the pre-lunchtime torture...

Summer has almost officially arrived, and with it, the necessity for a change in menu to bring back some of our favorite summertime dishes. This week ‘wichcraft reintroduced four of their seasonal sandwiches and fortunately, I was given the task of taste testing them. While I happily enjoyed each new menu item (yes, I tried them all!), I definitely had some favorites.

The zucchini and mozzarella sandwich (above) with basil, parmesan, and roasted tomatoes on grilled country bread was the unanimous favorite in the office. It had just the right amount of veggies and cheese and reminded me of a grilled cheese with a modern twist.

I’ve been on a vegetable kick lately, so my second favorite was the asparagus frittata (above). You can never go wrong with egg and cheese, and the addition of asparagus, English peas and aged cheddar make it even better.

Coming in third, would have to be the blackened flank steak. The romesco, grilled red onions and aged cheddar bring a great flavoring to the sandwich. My only complaint would be that the texture in the middle was a bit too mushy.

And last but not least, the free-range chicken salad (above). If you are a chicken salad fan as my coworker is, you will love this sandwich. The chicken tastes great on the multi-grain bread, along with the crunchy walnuts and roasted tomatoes. It is uniquely topped with pickled red onions, which certainly adds a pop to your usual chicken salad sandwich. Again, this is the only new summer sandwich available at the Herald and Greeley Square 'wichcraft kiosks.

We wish you delicious al fresco dining all summer long!

Also, keep an eye out next month for the famous 'wichcraft BLT, available only during heirloom tomato season! Now I'm really, really hungry...

Call It Spring at jcpenney

I might be perfectly happy with just the two of these for the rest of the summer. Perhaps I should try a little experiment? Find them at jcpenney in Manhattan Mall.

34th Street Weekend Sales Picks: Colors, Bandeau's and Strapless Dresses

Intern LCogs writes up sales on 34th Street for the weekend...

#1. Conway

Because almost everything is under $20! Those cute bird patterned sheer tanks and sheer blouses were my favorite articles of clothing in the store. These maxi dresses caught my eye too and would be incredibly comfortable. The only downside to Conway is that they don't have dressing rooms. They definitely have some hidden gems that are worth purchasing though. 245 W. 34th Street.

#2. Gap

Because the renovations are complete, the new store is open and they're having a great summer sale! The store front is now very prominent and eye catching. Inside everything is organized incredibly well, from the staff to the layout. Get there this weekend to get yourself some 20% off or 40% off dresses and shorts to wear in the heat. 60 W. 34th St.

#3. Express

Because you can now take 30% off already reduced clearance! They've got different colored strapless dresses that I fell in love with. As well as Buy 1, Get 1 50% off jeans and a ton of other sale items. Manhattan Mall, Level 1 (33rd St. & 6th Avenue).

#4. Victoria's Secret

Because they're having their Semi-Annual Sale! They have really cute lacey bandeau's and colorful tanks that are 2 for $28. And of course, they've got Pink Panties 5 for $26 per usual. I bought some today! Manhattan Mall, Level 1 (33rd St. & 6th Avenue).

#5. Journeys

Because they have 50% off shoes! If you go all the way to the back of the store they have two shelves filled with all types of shoes and they are all on sale. Yippee! 1293 Broadway.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! :)

Shopping Neutrals at Forever 21

Same thing happens to me every year when it gets hot: I realize I have nothing to wear.  I look in my closet and I just see black: no light summer clothes appropriate for the office, running around town, etc. Then today I spotted a couple girls on the subway in lovely neutrals, and they looked so cool and chic I vowed to find something similar.

Well, as is normal with shopping, I found nothing like I saw on the train but tried on other options at Forever 21 on 34th Street. There's a lot of neutral in these both, right?! At least they aren't black.

Keep cool out there.

Raika Studio on West 35th Street is one of the most calming spots a girl can find around 34th Street.

I'm feeling relaxed just looking at it.

It's ideal for an afternoon of pampering in between meetings or after a rigorous afternoon of Macy's Herald Square shopping. Raika, a Paul Mitchell Focus Salon, is truly exceptional, and we want one of you to experience it for yourself.

And even if you don't win, or need a salon fix up ASAP, Raika has a great June promotion: a free intensive moisture treatment with every haircut. Also, Raika has a new braid bar, so you can get a head full of hip braids that will keep you cool in this scorching heat.

Good luck!

Brasil Brings the Fun

Remember when I posted about all the cute Brasil stuff in Macy's Herald Square? Well, the Brasil fun continues with more tropical-inspired and limited-edition designs. Today I'm feeling the handbags, particularly ones from Betsey Johnson:

If you are not now compelled to carry your iPad in a pineapple case, there's something very wrong with you.
Viva Betsey!

JCPenney's MNG by Mango Summer

Guaranteed first stop on a JCPenney Manhattan Mall visit? The MNG by Mango boutique. It's right off the escalator thus some MNG eye candy always pulls me in to browse.

Strong dresses are definitely a Mango thing, but the jumpsuit and the cropped denim jacket? Very hip for summer.

34th Street Weekend Sale Picks: Shoes, Patterns, Mad Men and Comfort

Intern LCogs writes up sales on 34th Street for the weekend...

#1. Aerosoles

Because they're selling shoes for 70% off! I fell in love with the blue suede heels and the shiny leopard flats. Both pairs of shoes have these magically cushioned insoles; I never wanted to take them off. 36 W. 34th Street.

#2. Desigual

Because they're having a sale, up to 50% off! This store has the most colorfully patterned clothing I've ever seen. 958 Avenue of the Americas.

#3. Macy's Herald Square

Because the women's department on the 4th floor has a ton of sale racks, and that's where I came across this gem! I was very fond of the sequined wrists and back band as they added a bit of fun to the simple yet elegant dress. I absolutely adored it. I felt like I was in an episode of Mad Men (one of my favorite shows). Also, Macy's is having their One Day Sale from 8am until 1pm, today and tomorrow, so get your butt over there! 151 W. 34th Street.

#4. H&M

I know I put H&M in last weekends sale picks, but I can never not go into this store... and since almost everything is on sale right now, I had to try on some clothing. This lacy dress is incredibly cozy and only $17.95! I bought it and am really happy I did. I could wear it to work, out and about, and I could even sleep in it if I wanted to, that's how comfortable it is! 47 W. 34th Street.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! :]

Toddler Kicks: Get 'Em at Foot Locker

What drove me to shop toddler kicks at Foot Locker the other day? The rain. After I perused JCPenney and Express in Manhattan Mall, it started raining cats and dogs and I had no umbrella. Luckily there's a Foot Locker entrance across from the mall on 33rd Street, so instead of returning to the office I sprinted through the rain right into the arms of these:

With toddlers, as with infants, you're still not wanting laces. I got Converse hi-tops for her at three months and while they were the cutest things ever, they were a pain to get on baby feet. The Nikes above have faux laces and a velcro strap, which makes a mom's life much easier in the AM.

She was so excited about her new shoes, she tried to wear them to bed. And when she woke up this morning, I had to put them on first thing. Note the pattern mix with the PJ's: bumblebees meet gingerbread men, very on-trend for spring 2012. And very chic with neon kicks, yes?

The Best Hi-Lo at Express

As far as I'm concerned, Express is the master of the hi-lo. This black skirt is perfect:

Perhaps the mix up there on the left right is not a total success, but it's a fun idea for the younger set and I'm ADORING the crop lace top. Yes, I just said that. Please ignore my wet-rat, rainy-day hair.

Print dress? So cute and good hi-lo for work. The striped dress? Love it and the horizontal stripes are totally not a no-no here.

Best little collection of hi-lo on one rack I've seen yet!
