Christian Siriano Spring '13

For Spring '13, Christian Siriano's dancer inspiration was very Geoffrey Beene, while Siriano's separates and dresses skewed more Bill Blass.

Beene, Blass, or neither, I thought the show as a whole fell flat. Everyone said it was a more wearable Siriano collection, but I thought it lacked a strong direction for a Siriano customer. Successful American designers know their customer like the back of their hand. Perhaps customer knowledge is one of the biggest challenges as a young up-and-coming designer, because I wasn't sure exactly who Siriano was designing for in Spring 2013.

But each season I'm more convinced he will be a force in American design someday, and the finale proved me true. It was a stunning trio of delicate, tulle dresses that spoke strongly to a confident woman unafraid of her femininity, or a whole lot of tulle.

Also, when he's on with his gowns, Siriano is perfection.
