Fashion Week Fall / Winter 2015: Desigual and Nike Levi's Kids Rock!

Desigual
Desigual has a strong retail presence on 34th Street with two stores that are bold, bright, and gorgeous, all adjectives that aptly describe the brand's fall show. With hair crimped and teased big, and happily wearing Desigual's signature prints and fearless use of color, the models smiled jauntily down the runway, interacting with each other and the audience. These clothes are not for shy, retiring types. But I would recommend everyone to visit the store on Fifth and 34th next fall and look for the printed pants (always an incredible fit) and stunning sweaters. I am also a big fan of Desigual coats, accessories, and their fabulous kids line. My jury is still out with the runway knit pom-pom caps (pom-pom making gone wild, or fabulous?), but they sure do make a statement.

Nike Levi's Kids Rock!
Move over Gisele, the kids are in town. Dubbed the cutest fashion show around, the third annual Kids Rock! Fashion Show most definitely lived up to its name. The show instantly proved that kids do in fact rock, opening with a highly anticipated musical performance by 15-year-old singer songwriter and runner-up on season 2 of the X-Factor, Carly Rose Sonenclar. Adding to the roster of child greatness was 10-year-old DJ Kai Song who provided the tunes.

The show was presented by Haddad Brands and featured adorable child models and celeb offspring in looks from Nike, Nike SB, Jordan, Hurley, Levi, and Converse. All brands showcased head-to-toe looks highlighting a different aspect of what makes kids kids. Nike's looks were bold and powerful prints that inspired children to bring out the "Best in You" and drive the concept of a powerful transformation. Nike SB (Nike Skateboarding) embodied the creativity of youth united by skateboarding, with energetic designs complemented by the kids' runway struts. Jordan focused on the young athlete, while Converse forwarded their belief that unleashing kids' creative spirit will change the world. Hurley's collection was based on the love of the ocean and the passion of freedom of expression and the individual voice. Levi's is rooted in American Work Gear that has an effortless understated appeal.

This year the show partnered with Carmelo Anthony and the Carmelo Anthony Foundation, in which Carmelo gives back to the community through a variety of outreach programs and donations. The mission of this non-profit organization is to positively impact the lives of those living in under-served communities through 3 key focus- areas- education, recreation and community outreach.
