34th Street Weekend Sale Picks: Summer Sale Edition

#1. Gap
Because they've got 40% off already reduced items. This means yes, I bought another kids bathing suit for my girl. Also, when you visit the Herald Square store please keep in mind that renovations are not yet finished! We incorrectly reported a few weeks ago that renovations were complete, but they aren't, so don't panic when you walk into what seems like a greatly reduced store. When completed, the upstairs will be all women's, and the downstairs will be men's, kid's, baby and maternity.  60 West 34th Street

Online it's on sale for $15.99, in Herald Square I got it for $8.99. Just sayin...

#2.  Aldo
Because they're have a big sale, and you can get shoes up to 70% off. Personally I'm stalking their designer collab Rise collections that I'm always raving about.  27 West 34th Street

#3.  WHO.A.U
Because they are having a "Hot Summer" sale of up to 50% off. I know it doesn't feel like plaid shirt weather (or fleece weather), but if you can find any stock up for winter because their plaids are the best on the block. Ditto to the polo's, and don't forget their patch station where you can customize your vest, jacket, etc.  22 West 34th Street

Guest Model: Miss Yaya

A week ago, I was lucky enough to receive these great Gap photos and commentary from Miss Yaya of I Will Be My Own Judge. But I couldn't resist judging her comments and giving them an A+. It's refreshing to have a new pair of critical eyes trying on clothes for 34th Street. Thanks, Miss Yaya! And be sure to check out her blog for comprehensive makeup reviews and Magazine Weekend picks.

"I had this green shirt from a Gap shopping trip last week, but I took a pic anyway because it's the new collection - the collar is funky and the color is bright and perfect, but it wrinkles so fast and what the heck do I do with the strings in the middle?"

I adore this color on Miss Yaya with her striking hair. Hmm, but the strings do hang kind of limp and wrinkles? Annoying.

"The scarf and cardi are so perfect I wanted to keep them forever (I bought them...)"

Beautiful. I love the neutral with the green ombre.

"This is not meant for mere humans - this is meant for preggo humans as the bottom of this dress has a mind of its own."

Hallelujah, Yaya. Us preggos are not mere humans, we're high-heel-addicted humans who wake up one day and, tragically, opt for sensible, low-heeled slip-ons.

"It looked better unbuttoned and rolled up but not enough to buy. This blazer looked so horribly wrong on me but so terribly right on the mannequin."

Well, not horribly wrong, but not terribly right, either. We can't win them all, Miss Yaya! But let's end strong:

"One of the two items I would like to buy - this dress is soft and bright and...happy :)"

So bright and happy. I really hope you bought this dress, Miss Yaya, because it is adorable on you.

Moonlighting in Bryant Park

As some of you may already know, I also blog for Bryant Park during The Holiday Shops season. And now I'm contributing some shopping posts to our new Bryant Park blog, called "The Bryant Park Blog." Clever, yes?!

Drop by The Bryant Park Blog today to check out my BCBGMaxAzria post. There's a gorgeous store right across the street from the New York Public Library and Bryant Park, and this weekend they are having their first Friends & Family event: 30% off everything, including sale items. Thanks to Lindsey for standing in as my model yet again!

As for 34th Street, you know there are some sales going on there, too.

Gap, giving us 40% off. I'm also eagerly anticipating the Design Editions (Alexander Wang and Vena Cava khakis, YES), should be arriving in Herald Square next Tuesday on the 16th but I am awaiting confirmation. Update: in Herald Square on the 17th, and at the flagship on Fifth on the 16th.

Ok, it's not on sale, but this sold-out-everywhere, refillable, to-go brush is in Bare Escentuals on 34th Street so run, go get yourself one for $29.50!

The Foot Locker Family is rolling out some summer sales:

And be sure to check out Banana Republic's Father's Day sale special: buy a pair of chinos and get a polo for $15, and buy a non-iron shirt and get a tie for $15.

I also wanted to share a little Fossil for Father's Day, because when I was in the store last week this totally caught my eye:

The Jackson messenger bag, $108

And then the next day their PR sent me this photo! Serendipitous, so I guess that means I have to buy it for the new dad in my life? And borrow it on occasion?!

Big Hat Love

Thanks to all my fabulous and gorgeous blogging friends for their very sweet birthday wishes! As a Gemini, it's my joy to create a little drama on my birthday. Then, typically, us Geminis make up for it the next day with a little calm after the storm. So we were off to the beach Sunday morning for a gorgeous, relaxing day at a New York City public beach. Not, luckily, one of the beaches closed for contamination over the weekend. Yuk, yes, but you haven't lived till you've been on a beach a stone's throw from the NYC skyline. Amazing.

The sun hates me, so hats are my best friends in the summer. I've got an old straw beach hat, but this huge, floppy hat from Gap on 34th Street ($24.50) is my new, big hat love. It's the floppiest hat I've tried on all season. I can walk down the beach one-eyed all day, or cover up my entire face while sunbathing.

And look at this sporty seersucker newsboy cap on sale for $9.99 online. Adorable.I'm also due for a new maternity bathing suit, a I'm currently wearing a flowered hand-me-down. I thought I wouldn't care, it's just a bathing suit for three months, until I saw a cute pregnant woman wearing an adorable two piece on Sunday. Now I can't stand my perfectly fine hand-me-down with fuchsia flowers. Is this an illness?

More "Why I Love Gap 34th Street"

Because:

  1. It wins "best maternity department" award this week. I was just in there and there are many, many CUTE maternity dresses and jeans. I'll shoot them next week.
  2. The entire lower level is temporarily closed due to escalator face lifting, so all the women's is now with men's on the first floor. But still the store is very shoppable. I especially like that the usual men's sale section is the temporary women's sale section. Girls rule.
  3. Gap 34th Street takes initiative. [updated flyer and info following] Bring in the flyer below, your Metrocard, hotel key, or Empire State Building ticket stub, and get 10% off your total purchase at Gap 34th Street. See below for details and restrictions.

ONLY at the 34th & Broadway store. How I love those words. And as much as I adore stripes (#2), I want that poplin dress (#1). It's such a pretty blank canvas, and such a good basic to brighten with shoes, accessories, cardigan...oh you know what to do.

This special promotion runs Friday through Sunday. Be sure to flash your Metrocard and get an extra 10% off, and look for the extra 25% off Adult, Baby, and Body markdowns.
