Red Nose Day is a fundraising event organized by Comic Relief, the independent sister organization of Comic Relief UK, a charitable organization that aims to combat child poverty. On Red Nose Day, everyone is encouraged to cast inhibitions aside, put on a Red Nose, and raise awareness and funds to contribute to the cause. It has been going on in the U.K. for 30 years and has raised more than $1 billion in charitable donations so far.
The TV special and accompanying pre-promotional campaign will be modeled on the successful British Red Nose Dayevents. The special will showcase top comedy and entertainment acts, and will highlight the causes for which Red Nose Day is fundraising. Viewers will be encouraged to make donations by phone or online.
To get ready for the big day, be sure to buy a Red Nose, which is on sale exclusively at Walgreens and Duane Reade stores. All proceeds from Red Nose sales will be distributed to 12 U.S. and international charities that help lift children out of poverty.
