Just In: Old Navy Picks on 34th Street

First up: straw hats. I can have enough straw hats in the summer for sun protection (face and hair), because I always seem to leave them behind. So I prefer to have one in the car, at work, and on the hallway bureau; basically, in my face wherever I go so I don't forget to wear a hat.

I'm partial to the darker brown styles, and anything with a band on it.

Warning: the above is not a skirt, but a maxi dress. Bonus, it has pockets. I thought this wall looked so cute with the black and white and the denim jackets.

Must Shop Now: Route 66 Tops

More 34th Street Kmart this week, because the Route 66 is like an addiction with me. Kudos to the Kmart design team that consistently hits the mark with this adorable line.

The above two are my favorite tops in store now (left $13.99, right $13.99). But there's also tons of cute, summery tanks like these two below (left $11.89 , right $11.89):

And I have to give a shout out to the Attention shorts I spotted, shown below.

 They're a deal at $12.59.

West End Shoes: The Selena Gomez Dream Out Loud Sandals

Kmart is one of the original pioneers on the West End of 34th Street, but I always forget to visit their shoe department (probably because I get immediately waylaid by the Route 66). The other week, while checking out shoe stores across the street, I remembered to peruse the Kmart shoes. And happily discovered the adorableness of Selena Gomez's Dream Out Loud sandals.

Cute, cute gladiators for $16.99.

Scarf print sandals, so resort.

A great little beaded sandal for $14.99 (I crossed out the B1G1 sale as I can't confirm it's still on! ).

 Impressive, right?!

West End Shoes: DSW 34th Street

There's a lot of shoes going on in what I like to call the new West End of 34th Street, aka 34th between Seventh and Eighth Avenues. First to enter the lists was the Queen of West End shoes: DSW. Later came Payless, and then Footaction, but DSW regularly lures me westward with their designer shoe selection. Recently the Kurt Geigers were making me drool.

This mod-ish white sandal was seriously tempting me to break out the Amex.

The 34th Street DSW is full of designers, including a nice selection of Manolo Blahniks, Alaia Paris (really sexy heels in addition to the flats online), and Bottega Venetas, below.

When the store first opened, I wasn't as pleased with the designer shoe selection, but in 2013 I happily now cannot complain. Although looking back, how could I bitch with those gorgeous House of Harlow wedge booties up for grabs?!

Retro Van Halen at Forever 21

I have a thing against retro band T's, because the concert T was such a badge of honor that it was totally poseur to wear one if you didn't go to the show. And back in the day, no one wore a band T that wasn't bought at a concert. But, as what usually happens with all #GrannyThinking, one day a girl walks into Forever 21 on 34th Street and goes Uh-oh!

I am so tempted to go against my Retro Band T Ban. So tempted. And yes, I once attended a Van Halen concert, although it was with Sammy Hagar so it doesn't really count. But I saw David Lee Roth too, so that almost makes for a complete Van Halen experience, right?! Unless you're a hardcore Van Halen fan, and then it's not even close. So many rules in the rock fan world!

Summer Looks at WHO.A.U

WHO.A.U always impresses me with their selection and quality. Yes, this is a junior store, but those of us over 25 should stop by on occasion for their denim jackets, great tops, and sales racks in the back for basic sweatshirts and T's. Also, I tried on some of their dresses last week and was pleasantly surprised. How cute is this entire WHO.A.U look for a summer weekend?

Twinkle Toes at Famous Footwear

Yes, often now I go straight for the girl's shoe section before I browse for myself.  Last week I spotted these at Famous Footwear on 34th Street.

That's three layers of flower frills. Can you stand it? Touch of Nina girls sandals, now $29.99.

And then these happened. If you're not satisfied with pink bows, there's also sequin studs and sparkly stuff. There are tons of cute Skechers for girls at Famous Footwear. I'm sorry, boys, there is nothing that tops shoes like these in any shoe department anywhere in the world, because boy shoes are brown, black, or blue, and always boring!

Forever 21 34th St: Black & White & New All Over

Well, it's new all over on the second floor. If you haven't shopped Forever 21 on 34th Street in a while, you're in for a big surprise: this store is now so much easier to shop. First, there's all the really pretty displays featuring the latest trends, like black and white.

Then there's the section where GapKids and babyGap used to be, on the second floor of Herald Towers overlooking Broadway (Gap and Forever 21 are in the same building). Now it's all Forever 21 with light coming through the windows. Lovely!

Remember what the old accessories department looked like in Forever 21 on 34th Street? This is a HUGE upgrade. Also, there's a beauty section.

Again, remember what the old checkout lines looked like? Now you can browse merchandise while waiting to check out, just like at Sephora ;)

A huge improvement on 34th Street. Of course, I was there at 9am this morning which accounts for the lack of line at the dressing rooms and checkout. I highly recommend an early morning trip; Forever 21 is open at 8am on 34th Street, so you can stop by on your way to work.

Desigual by Lacroix: The Pants, Etc.

I usually fall madly in love with at least one Desigual by Lacroix piece per season, and this year it's these pants. Adore, want, need.

Desigual by Lacroix pants $154; white jacket $219

This crazy fun jacket runs a close second.

Desigual by Lacroix jacket $169

If you're dying to buy my macrame shell necklace, you are out of luck. This was a birthday present from my three year old, so until she's got an Etsy store you'll have to go get your own DIY macrame shell necklace kit ;)
