Ivana Helsinki at Uniqlo 34th Street

The Ivana Helsinki: Love Stories, Road Trips & Dresses// Northern Oddity, Pure Beauty & Wildwood Vagabond collection (best name ever) is in Uniqlo on 34th Street, and Herald Square shoppers must check it out. I'm putting the long-sleeved hoodies and the scarves on my list. I did not see this top, that I also must have, but I'm scouring the store for it after the holiday. Today I was just doing a brief store tour with my girl.

There's only so long one can sit by the mannequins with one's Dora backpack. But we are wearing the Karen Walker x Uniqlo kids skirt. It's brilliant.

Monumental H&M Flagship to Open in Herald Center

Rendering of the future World's Largest H&M in Herald Center
I've facebook'd it, I've tweeted it, and now I'm blogging it. You may have seen this news already if you're a WWD reader, or read the recap on Racked NY, but I had to share again as H&M's official press release is titled: H&M TO OPEN MONUMENTAL STORE IN HERALD SQUARE.

I really love the word "monumental." H&M is projecting a Fall 2014 opening for what will be the world's biggest H&M flagship, with four floors and 63,000 square feet of H&M brands, including their home collection. Herald Center was rumored to be getting Topshop, remember? Well, they're going to have to go somewhere else on 34th Street now, because H&M will be taking over Herald Center. The retailer says it is not closing or changing the concept of their other two stores on 34th Street, so there will be three H&Ms all in very close proximity (34th and Broadway), or down one long city block (34th and Seventh Avenue).

I'll end with a quote from the President of H&M North America, Daniel Kulle: “34th Street has proven to be one of the most successful retail corridors for the brand after having operated two stores there for over 10 years. With close to 300 stores across the country as well our new Shop Online, the H&M anchor store at this historic intersection will be one of our greatest accomplishments to date.”

Welcome, again, H&M, to 34th Street Herald Square.

Express: (Minus the) Leather Tops

I tried these on a few weeks ago at Express on 34th Street, and was so very impressed. They might be minus the leather, but they are definitely not minus the style.

You might want to drop by for a little fall shopping! These colors are perfection.

Jaclyn Smith at Kmart: The Hats

WAY back in the end of April, I checked out the Kmart fall press preview, and today, while browsing online, remembered the fabulous Jaclyn Smith faux fur hats shown at the preview.

Adorable, right? Also, this Jaclyn Smith blouse, below, struck me as very noteworthy. I'll be looking more than twice at the Jaclyn Smith this fall on 34th Street.

DSW Shoe of the Week: Herve Leger Boots

I've had my eye on this Herve Leger boot for a while, and now it's on clearance. Also, it's getting a lot closer to fall, and you know when it's fall all we want are boots, especially boots that mix a delicate heel with a tough platform.

Find them on the first level of DSW on 34th Street.

Aeropostale's Shoe Bar

OMG! Have you seen the Shoe Bar at AĆ©ropostale lately?
The Shoe Bar at Aeropostale on 34th Street
This one's in the middle of the store on 34th Street, and is full of not just those cute wedge sneakers, but also boots (including cream colored combat boots, YES) and other super cute shoes for fall. Also, I did not know that Aeropostale carried Supergas. I'm looking closer next time I'm on 34th Street to see if they are in-store or online only, as I need to try these on.

Opening Soon on 34th Street

1. American Eagle Outfitter's
The store at 40 West 34th Street has been closed for renovations, but will re-open any day now. Possibly, it is opening now as I type. The store has a gorgeous new shiny look with big video screen included (on the second floor, below, facing the street). Also, the pop-up at Seventh and 34th Street down the block is still open for business, filling the 34th Street AEO gap during renovations. Updated to add: store has re-opened!
Getting ready to open last week on 34th Street
2. Hour Passion
This Swatch boutique will be opening soon at the old Billabong space in 112 West 34th Street. Look for a wide variety of brands including not just Swatch but also luxury brands like Longines and Balmain.

3. Kids Foot Locker
Things are moving along fast at the old Brookstone space which will become home to a dedicated Kids Foot Locker store (below, to the right of Skechers). I get all my girl's kicks at Foot Locker just down the block, so I'm highly anticipating a whole storefront dedicated to the kids (no news on projected opening date).

4. Crocs
In what once housed Tad's Steaks will this winter become home to a big Crocs experience. I admit it, as a mom, I'm ecstatic. It doesn't matter if you scorned Crocs as a singleton, once you have kids you bow to the ease of the shoe made of a proprietary material that doesn't smell, is easy to clean, and can go from sidewalk to sprinklers, to pool, or beach and back.

5. Joe Fresh
This was originally a pop-up on 34th Street, then became permanent, and then closed last spring for renovations. Can't wait to see its fabulous new look on 34th Street (should  reopen very soon, again, might be opening right now...)

Gap Basics: So Fabulous

I cannot encourage you enough to check out Gap's new basics. The T-shirts and the oxford shirts are so so SO fabulous, I don't think I will buy a basic T-shirt from any other retailer, ever, as long as Gap keeps making these. Yes, I'm that impressed. The below had "Designed and Crafted" in the label, and the emphasis is apt.

Soft, hangs just so, loose in the right places, perfectly fitted in the right places, exactly the proper length, and is a v-neck: the above T-shirt has it all ($24.95).

See all of the above except "v-neck." The is The Shrunken Boyfriend, and it is exactly as if you are wearing your boyfriend's shirt and he's skinny and has a great tailor. Lovely, lovely fit ($49.95).

The jeans in both looks are 1969 Sexy Boyfriends. I just got Levi's Skinny Boyfriends, or these would have been a new boyfriend in my collection.

DSW Shoe of the Week: Cole Haan

I've been on an eternal search for a comfortable driver/loafer that won't break my bank. This beautiful blue Cole Haan shoe, spotted last week at DSW on 34th Street, is easily the best I've seen for the price.

And because shame on me, I didn't know I could find Alice + Olivia shoes at DSW, here's a runner-up:

Perfection, the both of them.

Social Apparel: Now on the West End, Too

If you need a sequin SWAG T-shirt or a bleeding Chanel logo T, I've got your store.

Meet Social Apparel. The store was once known as Cliquers on 34th Street, then moved into Manhattan Mall and became Social Apparel, and now has opened another outlet on the west end of 34th Street. I haven't stopped by the Manhattan Mall store in a while, but based on what I've seen there in the past, this new Social Apparel is the best iteration. Although yes, there are these...

... there are also the occasional Strawberry-esque gems.

Trashy, sure, but in a music festival way.
A perfectly cute dress and blouse.
There's also a wide variety of special occasion dressing, as you can find on their website. I recommend dropping by this 34th Street Social Apparel to look for an inexpensive blouse, a good little summer dress, or your ironic trashy T-shirt.

AerGOs: Now in Aerosoles 34th Street

I raved about them back in May at the press preview, and now you can buy them in Aerosoles on 34th Street.
AerGOs in store at Aerosoles 34th Street

AerGOs, Aerosoles new brand of shoes, feature plush insoles for extra cushioned comfort and EVA soles engineered to be flexible and incredibly lightweight. I picked them up in store and was amazed at how very light they are. For fall city hiking, my choice is the suede ankle bootie. I just can't decide, brown or purple suede?

Weekend MaxMara at Macy's Herald Square

Weekend MaxMara, a new(ish) collection from the Italian fashion house, was recently spotted on the floor in Macy's Herald Square.

Sadly, I don't dress like the left at all on the weekend, but the right? I would wear that over everything all Saturday and Sunday long: taking out the garbage, running to yoga, and competitively wielding my cart round our Italian Queens grocery store. Of course, I'm taking the "Weekend" in "Weekend MaxMara" literally here. I used to never think twice about MaxMara until I did a trunk show for them back in the day. After that, I was smitten. Beautiful cuts, beautiful quality, and not a ridiculous price.

Look for their new(ish) collection on the third floor of Macy's Herald Square next to DKNY.
