Gap Basics: So Fabulous

I cannot encourage you enough to check out Gap's new basics. The T-shirts and the oxford shirts are so so SO fabulous, I don't think I will buy a basic T-shirt from any other retailer, ever, as long as Gap keeps making these. Yes, I'm that impressed. The below had "Designed and Crafted" in the label, and the emphasis is apt.

Soft, hangs just so, loose in the right places, perfectly fitted in the right places, exactly the proper length, and is a v-neck: the above T-shirt has it all ($24.95).

See all of the above except "v-neck." The is The Shrunken Boyfriend, and it is exactly as if you are wearing your boyfriend's shirt and he's skinny and has a great tailor. Lovely, lovely fit ($49.95).

The jeans in both looks are 1969 Sexy Boyfriends. I just got Levi's Skinny Boyfriends, or these would have been a new boyfriend in my collection.

Levi's 34th Street Sale: Ends Today!

Luckily I noticed this sale at Levi's 34th Street this morning, because it ends today and I always stock up on 501s for my man during these 40% off shopping opportunities (spend $250 get 40% off, spend $150 get 20% off). This time I also picked myself up a pair of perfect skinny boyfriend pants.

Blouse $54, skinny selvedge boyfriend jeans $88

Skinny boyfriend jeans might seem like an oxymoron, but you'll get it when you try them on. I really, really needed new skinny black jeans, but I ended up with baggy/skinny blue jeans. This is what happens when you shop for a blog...

Vest on sale for $39, Liberty London x Levi's dress $220, yellow top $48

Levi's also has a great selection of summer tops and blouses. And look for the Liberty London collab pieces which are now in store (see shirt dress, above left). Their print for Levi's is pretty damn awesome. Hit up the boutique on your way home from work today and take advantage before this special ends.

How to Be Slouchy & Skinny

I went into Banana Republic on 34th Street yesterday to stalk these jeans featured in a Banana email:

I hated them at first, then kept returning to the email to look again, and then couldn't forget them, much like an annoying guy you love to hate. Why? They are the slouchy skinny jeans: relaxed fit on top and skinny on bottom. I decided I had to see what it's like to be skinny and slouchy at once. I can now attest that it is good and really comfortable. They're in store now and on sale for $69.99:

Shirt, left, is the fitted non-iron style on sale for $41.99. Shirt on right is on sale for $51.99.

But I have to admit, I'm still a little bigger than my pre-Baby Herald weight, so I like the slouchiness on top. I could even fit into a size 28 (before I was a 28/29), but then they weren't slouchy at all, so I guess that was counterproductive to the whole slouchy/skinny thing. Still, I'd recommend trying a size smaller, as the 30 was definitely too baggy in the rear for my liking. The length was just the way I like it: long. I'm not 100% on the light blue, but it's cute for summer.

To compare sizing, I tried this boyfriend cut, which is described as a "relaxed, slouchy fit," and the 29 fit perfectly snug:

So if you want a little more room on top, go with the skinny slouch, not the boyfriend slouch. As for the above, normally I'm against pre-made holes, but these jeans kind of won me over. This is also amazing as I love my jeans long and these are cropped short. More proof that Banana Republic consistently produces a great pair of jeans.

Visit Banana Republic today on 34th Street and take advantage of the last day of 25% off full-priced merchandise. That goes for the boyfriend cut jeans, which are full-price at $89.50.
