Now on Broadway: Super Bowl Boulevard

Photo op on Super Bowl Boulevard
Game is on: the Super Bowl Boulevard opened yesterday, and the big game fun has begun! What's going on? Well, there's the greatly anticipated toboggan run, the virtual theater at Macy's Herald Square (video below), the NFL Kids Fun Zone, and a lot more, including two big public events in Bryant Park, our sister company.

Visit here for a full list of events along the boulevard. Go here to read more about #PEPCITY in Bryant Park, and here for the Verizon Power House in Bryant Park, both located one short block away from Broadway Boulevard. Photos below are from the Boulevard. Enjoy New York City, football fans!

DSW Shoe of the Week: Tahari Flats

So perfect, so simple, so pretty, so spring ready.

Tahari flats at DSW 34th Street. I want all three colors. Sorry about cutting off the camel color, but I think you get the idea.

bareMinerals Boutique: Temporarily Closed on 34th Street

My loyal 34th Street tipster (hey, Intern Craig!) last week alerted me to the shuttering of the bareMinerals boutique located at 44 West 34th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues.
Photo taken 1/23/2014

And it's not just bareMinerals. It appears there was a fire in the building and the entire space is now empty.

We hope all the tenants are OK, and the building will be back on its feet soon for all its occupants. Until then, there are several other bareMinerals options nearby, as outlined in their sign on the door below.

Super Bowl at Stella 34: Tailgate and Game Day Menus

Super Bowl Boulevard is going up as we speak, but there's already a tailgate menu at Stella 34 in Macy's Herald Square. It involves caramel corn, Italian-style poppers, team-inspired sandwiches, chocolate-covered hazelnut mousse footballs with white icing laces, beer from both the team's cities, and more!

Just think: starting Wednesday, January 29th at noon, you can stroll Super Bowl Boulevard, enjoy all the big game attractions, and then stop by Stella 34 inside Macy's to dine on their tailgate specialties, perfect for couples, families, and kids of all ages.

How about game day itself? Make reservations at Stella 34. Not only will you have great views of Super Bowl Boulevard and the Empire State Building, but for $80 you get an impressive spread (menu below) of unlimited food and drink. You and your friends will be chowing down on Stella's famous Arancini, fried Calamari, authentic Neapolitan pizza, classic salumi & formaggi boards, and all of the special tailgate menu additions. Stella 34’s 240-foot bar will also be offering opposing beers from Seattle and Denver and Italian wines.

Stella 34 for New York City's historic Super Bowl XLVIII: the perfect mix of food, city, and Super Bowl fun!

34th Street Weekend Picks: Last Chance Weekend?

Winter sales are winding down! Lots of stores on 34th Street have an extra percentage off already very discounted prices, like the extra 50% off the lowest sale price at Gap. This should be the last of the sales (this weekend and maybe next, but expect slim pickings) before stores move out merchandise for spring, so if you can, visit 34th Street this weekend.

Take 50% off the lowest marked price on select sale items. There is a decent amount of good basic and Designed & Crafted (bottom right) merchandise available. My favorite pick is the Bowery super soft tees on sale ($6.49), and the Seamless tee I snatched up for $2.48 (below left). 60 West 34th Street at Broadway

They are giving us fair warning. Prices are as marked, and they are low. I always scour the kid's section for cute accessories, and this week I picked up a cat-ear headband for under a $1, and a riding hat for $2.50. The accessories areas in all departments are full of great deals. 47 West 34th Street at Broadway, and 435 Seventh Avenue at 34th Street

Old Navy
Ditto here. Clearance is up to 75% off and prices are as marked. I got two kids tees, one Snoopy and one Minnie Mouse, for under $10 (yes, all I do now is shop the kid's department. Sigh). 150 West 34th Street between Broadway and Seventh Avenue

Joe Fresh
The email said "This is major..." and Joe Fresh did not disappoint me when I clicked to open. Their sale (in-stores only) is 60% off. Wow. 215 West 34th Street just west of Seventh Avenue

Macy's Herald Square: NFL Shop at Super Bowl

A historic Super Bowl deserves an epic store. On 34th Street, Macy's Herald Square has the epic thing covered with the world's largest Super Bowl store on their fourth floor: the NFL Shop at Super Bowl.
Even the first floor of Macy's Herald Square is decked out for the Super Bowl.

I stopped by the other day to check it out, and it is beyond impressive: a football fan's big game mecca. Sections include the "Custom Zone" (above), where fans can personalize Super Bowl apparel and accessories (including footballs and jerseys), NFC and AFC apparel departments for men and women, walls of knit caps and snapbacks, the Charles Fazzino art exhibition (the NFL's officially licensed artist), and much, much more.

Below are more photos, but the NFL Shop at Superbowl has to be seen in person. Stop by through February 4th to shop game merchandise and to buy tickets ($5) to the toboggan run, the main attraction on Super Bowl Boulevard in Times Square. Macy's Herald Square is the southernmost destination of the boulevard. But wait, there's more: click here for the press release to get all the dates of player appearances, a spectacular fireworks display, and the stunning debut of a nightly NFL video show "morphing the store’s world-famous fa├žade into an outdoor theater for football’s most devoted fans."

Bravo, Macy's. And welcome, football fans, to New York City's most exciting Super Bowl retail destination.

DSW Shoe of the Week: Winter Boots, Duh

Granted, the selection isn't super fab in January as everyone assumes we are all booted up, but if you need an upgrade because your boots sprung a leak (ugh, me), then stop by DSW 34th Street and pick up some of these.
La Canadienne, above. Lined, but doesn't scream "winter boots."

Kamik shiny rain boot with a cozy liner. A great price for a cute multi-tasker.

Everyone's got them. (I'm looking at you, fashion people. I know you're home right now, cozied up with your UGGs). I am not kidding when I tell you I can't get enough of this hot pink and those bows. My four-year old would DIE if I brought these home: "Mommy, will you save these for me when I'm older?"

During these seasonal transition times in the retail world, you can often find the cutest and most practical pieces of the year, like these AEO sweatshirts

Very Flashdance era, I love an open-neck shirt. These are cozy, but the modern floral print upgrades the sweatshirt-ness. I'll take two, please.
