LUSH Cosmetics: Back in Herald Square!

We were alerted to the reopening of LUSH Herald Square by this story in Racked NY. Yay to LUSH's gorgeous new home in the space that was previously Bare Minerals.

This morning on 34th Street.

Lush was in Herald Center on Broadway, but now has a larger, higher profile storefront on 34th Street to the left of Forever 21 and the right of American Eagle Outfitters. Bare Minerals moved out of this space in the beginning of the year after a fire in the building.

Luckily, no one was hurt in the fire, and this pretty building is making a comeback. Welcome back, LUSH Cosmetics!

Monumental H&M Flagship to Open in Herald Center

Rendering of the future World's Largest H&M in Herald Center
I've facebook'd it, I've tweeted it, and now I'm blogging it. You may have seen this news already if you're a WWD reader, or read the recap on Racked NY, but I had to share again as H&M's official press release is titled: H&M TO OPEN MONUMENTAL STORE IN HERALD SQUARE.

I really love the word "monumental." H&M is projecting a Fall 2014 opening for what will be the world's biggest H&M flagship, with four floors and 63,000 square feet of H&M brands, including their home collection. Herald Center was rumored to be getting Topshop, remember? Well, they're going to have to go somewhere else on 34th Street now, because H&M will be taking over Herald Center. The retailer says it is not closing or changing the concept of their other two stores on 34th Street, so there will be three H&Ms all in very close proximity (34th and Broadway), or down one long city block (34th and Seventh Avenue).

I'll end with a quote from the President of H&M North America, Daniel Kulle: “34th Street has proven to be one of the most successful retail corridors for the brand after having operated two stores there for over 10 years. With close to 300 stores across the country as well our new Shop Online, the H&M anchor store at this historic intersection will be one of our greatest accomplishments to date.”

Welcome, again, H&M, to 34th Street Herald Square.

Moving In: Kids Foot Locker

That was fast: Kids Foot Locker is taking over the recently closed Brookstone space at 142 West 34th.

An article in Real Estate Weekly yesterday, titled "Foot Locker loves 34th Street," states "The retailer was so eager to secure the space, it will leave three of the buildings' five floors empty, selling from built out space on the first and second floors when it takes occupancy in August."

This new Kids Foot Locker joins the company's other brick and mortar stores on 34th Street including House of Hoops at 11 West 34th, Foot Locker, currently including Kids and Lady, at 120 West 34th, and Footaction at 225 West 34th. Clearly, 34th Street loves you back, Foot Locker.

Tour the New Lane Bryant on 34th Street

I recently stopped by the new Lane Bryant on 34th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues to check out the flagship's new digs, and it's truly a beautiful store. Let's take a little virtual tour.

First, note the classy new signage:

Then walk into an open, airy floor plan with sweeping staircase and balcony:

By the staircase please enjoy browsing the Lane Collection, available in only 11 Lane Bryant stores:

Now go up the escalator and enter Cacique's Seriously Sexy zone. Adore the neon-accented lingerie!

Feeling sleepy? Pick up some lounge wear:

Then take in the view:

Take the staircase back down to the ground floor, and enjoy the new Lane Bryant logo:

We heart you , too, Lane Bryant. Congrats on the beautiful new flagship on 34th Street NYC!

West End Updates: Lane Bryant Open, Joe Fresh Temporarily Closed

Lane Bryant is back on 34th Street just west of Seventh Avenue, and she's looking lovely.

Pretty store, yes? There's even a mezzanine level. There have been a ton of changes on this block recently. Walk west from  Lane Bryant and you'll see the newly opened Cohen's Fashion Optical and the future home of a sports footwear store relocated Footaction, soon to open. Walk east and you've got Party City, Payless, a currently shuttered Joe Fresh, and DSW. Wait, what? Joe Fresh is closed?

Don't panic, it's reopening soon. Remember, Joe Fresh was one of the pioneers of the new west end of 34th Street with a pop-up back in late 2011. Now that the pop-up is permanent, it looks like Joe Fresh 34th Street is getting a makeover. Look for the store to reopen mid-June.

Welcome to 34th Street, Sam Ash Superstore!

This past Saturday, Sam Ash opened on 34th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues.

The new Sam Ash on 34th Street, two days before opening

What was seven storefronts on 48th Street is now one 30,000 square foot space on 34th Street, and will become one of the largest music destinations in the U.S. This is great news for the western end of 34th Street, and further enhances the block that is home to Manhattan Center, B&H Photo and Video, and AMC Loews 34th Street.

Also, there's a big Les Paul tribute you won't miss as you walk in the front door. Yes, this will be your gearhead destination on 34th Street. Luckily for us non-gearheads, we can drop them off and walk down the street and shop, or walk across the street and catch a movie. I could easily leave my husband in a music store for two hours.

Welcome, Sam Ash, to 34th Street!

Vince Camuto Now Open on 34th Street, Zara Re-Opening Soon

The Vince Camuto boutique opened late last Thursday afternoon, and I was happy to be walking into the store just ten minutes after it rolled out the stanchions and balloons.

It's as pretty inside as it is on the outside. At Vince Camuto on 34th you'll find shoes, handbags, accessories, and clothing.

Across the street, Zara is still prepping for its November re-opening. Rumors say the store should be back in business by Black Friday, or a few days after.

I'm sure the security guard next door will be happy I'll no longer be pumping him for Zara intel every two weeks.

Today on 34th Street: DSW & Marni at H&M

Riding down the escalator at DSW 34th Street. Yes, I joined the cult for the coupons.

A lot was going on this morning on 34th Street. Not only were the Marni fans lined up at both 34th Street H&M stores (Herald Square and Penn Station), but DSW was packing them in for their store opening.

The store is three lovely floors of men's and women's shoes and handbags. Spotted: Charles Jourdan bags, Falchi bags, House of Harlow booties (above, left), and L.A.M.B booties (above, right). I also saw some nice wallets and iPad/laptop holders by the registers. My only complaint is no designer shoe section, and not a very robust designer shoe selection.

After checking out the shoes, I stopped by H&M Penn Station (34th & 7th Ave) to see how the Marni was going. It looked like this by 11:45am:

See the empty racks? Also...

I liked looking over and seeing a sole Versace for H&M look on the floor right next to all the Marni action. Speaking of...

Great, wearable collection. The lines for this collaboration didn't form as early as Versace did on 34th Street, and may not have been as densely populated, but this one sold FAST. Keep your eye out in the coming weeks for any returns.

DSW 34th Street Opening and "A Design Event"

Today Sarah covers DSW's "A Design Event" and is happy to report that the 34th Street DSW is opening at 34th Street and Seventh Avenue on March 8th, 2012. Hooray!

Impressive selection from "A Design Event"

I had a great time attending "A Design Event" at the new H.H. Brown showroom near Times Square Wednesday night.  The event was sponsored by DSW with FIT to launch a design competition in celebration of new DSW store openings in New York City. The winning design will be produced and sold at DSW's New York City stores and online.

There was no shortage of inspiration in the 21,000-square foot show room filled to the brim with shoes. My favorite? The velvet bootie with wide ribbon laces below: scrumptious!

The $9.90 jean that was offered at the Fifth Avenue opening last Friday will also be available at the 34th Street store till supplies last (women's are the skinny fit, men's are the regular fit straight). Mango Open on 34th Street

Last week Mango opened on 34th Street, and on my first visit I tried on four dresses and a pair of light pink pointed-toed heels. I left wanting four dresses and a pair of light pink pointed-toed heels.

Yes, I'm looking right at you and thinking "Kate Middleton dress" ($79.90).

Probably not a Duchess of Cambridge dress ($79.90).

The orange shift is $69.90. Look at the pretty neckline! And the chinoiserie print!

On the right I'm practicing my variation on the Wendy Brandes pose. The blue plaid is $119.90 and the pink shoes (in all photos) were around $100. Unfortunately, there's a 39 and maybe one other size left in the pink shoes.

General store feelings? My pre-opening Mango excitement was well warranted. After trying on clothes I tweeted in response to @MangoPie (no relation to Mango) that I was in dress and accessory heaven. But when I first walked into the store I was getting Ghost of Lane Bryant Past in the surrounding decor. Luckily I was immediately overcome by the surrounding dresses and their price tags and soon could only think MANGO. Also, the bag and shoe selection is pretty fantastic. So yes, a big hoo-rah to have Mango open on 34th Street. It's now top on my list for event shopping, next to Macy's Impulse, Zara, and H&M.

Timberland 34th Street Now Open!

Timberland Herald Square: brand-new and open on 34th Street this morning.
The store is lovely and a great new addition to the street. There's a big collection of men's clothing and shoes, as you can see in the pictures below.

The women's and kid's offerings are not so vast, pretty much what I expected, but the selection is really, really good. I'm not so interested in the popular Earthkeepers collection, but the Timberland Boot Company collection is a different story (I would also buy the kid's sandals for $27). All of the photos below are from the Timberland's site, and can be found in the new 34th Street store.

Holy crap, I have finally found my perfect men's boot, but it's a girl boot that fulfills all of my men's boot needs. I know, I don't get it either, but I'm always trolling men's boots wanting to buy a pair. This Lucille tall boot is $300. I will salivate and charge if it goes on sale.
Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Yes, I'm scratching my head but I really, really need them ($270).
Pretty, and they come in bone with a white racing stripe up the back ($190).

Pleated fabric heel! The Timberland Boot Company shoes are inspired by the Industrial Age of the early 20th Century. I'm a sucker for the whole story.
