Patriotic Flip-Flops at Payless

While the #USA vs #BEL game goes into extra-time, we are here to post some patriotic flip-flops from Payless to give us USA fans the edge. And the 4th of July is right around the corner, too.

Or perhaps you prefer slip-ons?

Unfortunately, Belgium just scored, so the flip flops aren't working, dammit. Go, USA!

West End Updates: Lane Bryant Open, Joe Fresh Temporarily Closed

Lane Bryant is back on 34th Street just west of Seventh Avenue, and she's looking lovely.

Pretty store, yes? There's even a mezzanine level. There have been a ton of changes on this block recently. Walk west from  Lane Bryant and you'll see the newly opened Cohen's Fashion Optical and the future home of a sports footwear store relocated Footaction, soon to open. Walk east and you've got Party City, Payless, a currently shuttered Joe Fresh, and DSW. Wait, what? Joe Fresh is closed?

Don't panic, it's reopening soon. Remember, Joe Fresh was one of the pioneers of the new west end of 34th Street with a pop-up back in late 2011. Now that the pop-up is permanent, it looks like Joe Fresh 34th Street is getting a makeover. Look for the store to reopen mid-June.

There's a New Payless on 34th Street

This picture is showing so much 34th Street Partnership, I want to do a "Find our streetscape" game.

Say adieu to the Payless on Eighth Avenue and 34th Street. But you won't be missing it as we've got a brand new shiny Payless down the street from the old locale. It's right next to Joe Fresh and the new DSW Shoe Warehouse. I'm henceforth calling this block of 34th Street between Seventh and Eighth the "West End."

Also there's 34th Street between Eighth and Tenth Avenue. I will call this the "New Frontier." Confusing, yes? Well, I'm no marketing major. Everyone's scared to move to the new frontier because it's far away, very "Westward, ho!" Most likely the retail migration is inevitable. Kudos to Swarovski, DSW, and Joe Fresh for starting the trend in the West End. The West End is getting hot...

...see, Party City! It's opening right next to Payless. Don't pretend like you're not excited, because there is a holiday coming up and where the heck else will you be getting bunny costumes for under $50?

Really scary, and really cute. I can't wait.

The Toledos, The Lela Roses, The Payless Designers...

It's been a while since I checked out the designers at Payless, so I dropped by before the holidays. And now is the time to get those Toledo shooties on sale for $19, and the Lela Rose laser-cut boot for $22.

Jaws Ghillie and Lazer Wedge shooties below.  Of course the Toledos are my personal favorite

Lela Rose consistently provides pretty and wearable shoes through the many years she's collaborated with Payless; it's quite impressive. Isabel Toledo has the most interesting styles, but the Sirianos haven't done much for me lately. Although his Gold Collection can be found at Payless on 34th Street, and they do make a girl reminisce upon the talon shoes that had us all tearing up the Payless aisles back in 2010.

34th Street Weekend Sales Picks: H&M's Conscious Collection

Of course, because it's a holiday weekend, sales are everywhere. Aeropostale is having a 70% off sale, Esprit is having a 30% off sale, Gap is having a 50% off sale...it's pretty much battle of the percentage this weekend on 34th Street.

  #1. H&M
Because their new Conscious Collection is in both our 34th Street stores, and you can get 25% off one item through Monday (print coupon here).  34th Street and Broadway, 34th Street and Seventh Avenue

#2. Macy's Herald Square
Because it's their big Columbus Day sale, which means 25%-75% off storewide.  151 West 34th Street

#3. Payless
Because BOGO 1/2 off everything is back! And, well, just look at the Isabel Toledos, Sirianos, et al.  110 West 34th Street

This is a rain boot! Send your love to Isabel Toledo.

It's Payless for Springtime

Katie always reminds me that I need to hit up one of our two 34th Street Paylesses for spring shoes. Around this time every year, she'll come by and show me the new Payless flats that get her through months of summer work in Bryant Park. But yesterday we had an exciting development: she bought these Fioni booties, now on sale for $24.99.

After she purchased them, Katie spotted the Fionis on one of her favorite fashion bloggers, Kendi (below, and here). These are really adorable booties, but you won't find them online and you won't find very many sizes at Payless on 34th Street, as they are almost completely gone. In the Broadway & 34th store I spotted 6 1/2's and 7's.

Photo from Kendi Everyday

You can find the fabulous Dexter Marina Boat Moc Boot (below) online but not in store, unless Payless ships some more. The manager told me this morning that they only received one per size as a test. Hopefully soon more will be flying in, because this is one crazy boat moc boot that I've got to see in person.

The Hat Wins

Often my store pics don't do full justice to the clothing as I'm like a crow, I get distracted by the shiny objects and rarely put them all together to make the full, cohesive look. I leave that for the big guys and the outfit bloggers.

So I love to get pictures like these! Lindsey, above, on a little Southern America tour and utilizing her big H&M hat we posted last week in store. I am proud of this one, as I know she was on the fence and bought it just because I loved it. And if you can name the town that cemetery's in (think of a book title that begins with "Midnight..."), I'll send you free fake nails from Revlon! I'm mailing these out this week, so put your order in now! I'm tired of bumping into the big box o'nails and lashes.

Misc. 34th Street News:

  • Kensie event with Glamour at Macy's Herald Square on the 2nd floor at 6pm. RSVP was by the 12th, but surely you can go and watch? And I'm a big fan of Kensie's chic, inexpensive styles
  • Handbags at Steve Madden are 25% off. You may even find some men's clearance shoes hanging round.
  • Get an extra 15% off at Payless here.
Update: sorry, forgot to link the Payless email for an extra 15 off. Go here and scroll down to "Payless" section.

Lela Rose for Payless, IRL

KT bought these Lela Rose flats during the last BOGO session at Payless. I think they are adorable:

Chic! Of course she has a perfect tan so they look fabulous.

KT said they are comfortable but chafe a little at the heel. I find most of my new Payless shoes need some breaking in, and the Lela Roses are generally the most comfortable flats. KT also said she's always looking for a wide, comfortable toe in her flats, and these fit the bill. Her other BOGO selection:

American Eagle flats, all cuteness. They are, as KT said, a great running-around summer shoe ($17.99).

And don't miss Lindsey's favorite flat (she's wearing them here), also American Eagle, which she has worn almost daily for work since BOGO'ing them a few weeks ago. She's even wearing them right now, with a broken toe! $19.99 on sale.

Payless+Pat Field+34th Street=$12

The Patricia Field for Payless shoe from her last collection. It's tough for me to turn down a $12 Payless designer collab shoe. Thanks to my model, who yes, has much smaller feet than I. Office consensus is the shoes are cute, but the heel is too clunky. My response: it's Patricia Field, expect the platform tranny heel. Work! And here's my shoe at work:
