These don’t make any excuses or try to hide. These clothes say “look at me.

Pants + Bling: 34th Street's Lane Bryant

Today I'm lucky enough to have a 34th Street Lane Bryant post from my co-worker, Barbara. She's always on 34th Street on the weekends inspecting the streets, and this past weekend she dropped by Lane Bryant for a look. Thanks, Barbara!

Being of an unfashionable size, I have been looking, for weeks, for a classic pant that would fit over my belly, where the legs don’t flair out like bell bottoms. I wear a size 18 or 18W, and more often than not, if I can actually zip up the pants over my rolls of fat, then the crotch hangs mid-thigh, or the waist hits at the bra-line. I was on 34th Street this past weekend, and decided to check out Lane Bryant, and was elated to find 2 pair of pants that actually fit! And the second pair was free.*

As I was standing in line to pay, I found the bling rack, which was also buy one, get the second pair free.* I got to check off several names from my Christmas list. I bought a great 72” black-onyx rope necklace for my sister-in-law, two colorful bracelets to give friends, and I am going to keep the silver ball earrings for myself. I was impressed by the quality, selection of styles, and value. I paid over $30 for a similar Ralph Lauren earring, and Lane Bryant’s version was $12. I know where I am buying my jewelry from now on.

Be sure to check out Barbara's fantastic blog, Carroll Gardens Brooklyn History.

*Please note that the BOGO free sale may have ended after this past weekend. Please call the store for more details about this and other Lane Bryant sales.

Give & Get and Friends & Family

Put on your shopping shoes...it's going to be a busy weekend.

Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy are holding their Give & Get sale. You get 30% off your purchases and the non-profit of your choice (or if you use the coupon below, the non-profit of my choice: Feeding America, an organization working to eliminating hunger) gets 5% of the purchase price.

Lane Bryant is having its Friends & Family weekend where you get 25% off just about anything in stores and online.

Both deals are good through this Sunday, November 15th. Don't forget to print out the coupons and bring them with you!

Don't Tease the Undergarment

Today I'm wearing something that shall remain nameless. Something that, over six months ago, I mocked, scorned, and abused (but my mom put it in with my maternity things anyway). And now I'm wearing it. Yes, velcro is involved. But I feel nicely supported (I can't believe I just said that), and it doesn't feel like my belly is being left behind every time I sit up from my chair.

Gratuitous "girls at fashion week" photo w/Lindsey, me, and Kati. Lindsey is kind of hiding the belly. This is just before I entered the "What the hell is this and how does it work?" undergarment phase of pregnancy.

Moral of the story? Don't mock undergarments, they will come back to haunt you. Which reminds me, Lane Bryant and Cacique, their in-store lingerie boutique and one of my old-time favorite lingerie shops, is having a bra-fit event this Friday:

Visit the store on 34th Street Friday through Sunday and get a free expert fitting. Me, I could totally use one right now, I have no idea what the heck my bra size is. Nor my shoe size. And forget about dress size.

Friends & Family Thursday

I must interrupt my regularly scheduled 34th Street shoe reviews for a Friends & Family notice:

Hit up Lane Bryant on 34th Street from today to Sunday and get 30% off. I'm always drawn to the Lane Bryant on 34th Street because of the Cacique in the windows. When I was younger the Cacique bras fit me better than Victoria's Secret, and they always had great sales. Now they're exclusive to Lane Bryant. Jealous. I'm also jealous of this:

Now it's a jumpsuit...

Now it's pants. The convertible jumpsuit, $79.50 before F&F. Still I wait in vain for a maternity jumpsuit, and here Lane Bryant has one that converts! Sheesh!

Love Friends & Family

Friends and family sale at Lane Bryant today and tomorrow at the 7 W. 34th Street store. This means 30% off your entire purchase, check out the coupon below for more information. Luckily you don't even have to print it up to enjoy the savings (more $ for clothes, less $ for stupid expensive toner cartridges) just visit and shop.
I'd look for the peacock blue Baby Phat cowl-neck sweater for $84. Yes, there is a "cascade of foil cat logos" but this is pretty, not overdone, and it's cotton/spandex, that durable and comfortable blend. From the Lane Bryant line I like the houndstooth knit jacket with the belt (gives full figures a nice shape), $59.50, and the cowl-neck sweater vest for $39.50. It's all about the vest this winter. And for something special try on the silver jacquard jacket for $79.50 as it could be a perfect holiday party staple. All these prices are before Lane Bryant rewards you for being such a good friend or family.

Also, Malo's sample sale at Soiffer Haskin begins this Sunday. Drop by after the marathon and get 70% off retail for their women's and men's knitwear. This Italian sportswear company is known for its super-luxe cashmere and cashmere, cotton and silk blends. Sunday - Tuesday, 9am - 6:30pm, Wed., 9am - 5pm. It's credit cards only, all sales final, and leave the kids (under 12) and strollers at home. I guess a stroller would give you an unfair advantage at a sample sale. Makes sense as they are often used steam-roller-like on NYC streets.
