Moving In: Kids Foot Locker

That was fast: Kids Foot Locker is taking over the recently closed Brookstone space at 142 West 34th.

An article in Real Estate Weekly yesterday, titled "Foot Locker loves 34th Street," states "The retailer was so eager to secure the space, it will leave three of the buildings' five floors empty, selling from built out space on the first and second floors when it takes occupancy in August." 

This new Kids Foot Locker joins the company's other brick and mortar stores on 34th Street including House of Hoops at 11 West 34th, Foot Locker, currently including Kids and Lady, at 120 West 34th, and Footaction at 225 West 34th. Clearly, 34th Street loves you back, Foot Locker.

What's Going On: Foot Locker & Footaction on 34th Street

There's a lot going on tomorrow for basketball and hip-hop fans on 34th Street. First up, Foot Locker: Tomorrow evening starting at 6:45pm, Brandon Jennings of the Milwaukee Bucks, Derrick Williams of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Kemba Walker of the Charlotte Bobcats, and Greivis Vasquez of the Memphis Grizzlies will be appearing at Foot Locker on 34th Street for a meet-n-greet with fans. These Under Armour athletes are first playing an exhibition game against Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, and then will be dropping by the store to mingle and participate in a Q&A.

Earlier in the day, at Footaction at 34th and Seventh Avenue, Kendrick Lamar will be in store from 4-5pm. I think the flier says it all! If you're a fan, drop by and say hey to Kendrick.

And be sure to shop some kicks while you're on 34th Street, because between the two stores, the inventory should satisfy all your sneakerhead needs.

I love her moment! I also loved what everyone shared as their favorite wedding moment, including bird poop on the groom's dress white Navy uniform, the groom playing basketball after the wedding, the 3 foot tall officiator, and the veil getting stuck on the carpet! So for all you brides to be, don't stress the wedding perfection too much, because you're going to look back fondly at every moment, the romantic and not so romantic alike!

Moonlighting in Bryant Park

Footaction & Foot Locker For the Holidays

Personally, I'm not a Jordan sneakerhead but I'm really partial to this black/red combo.

And don't forget Foot Locker for your last minute holiday shopping. The store on 34th Street has the Lady FL and Kids FL too, so you can do some serious one-stop shopping. I highly recommend these for the little ones this holiday season:

So Much To Do...

Fuel up, kids, because there's a lot of new shopping on 34th Street today. First up, the Gap Artist Editions T-shirts in celebration of the 2008 Whitney Biennial debut in stores:


I spotted these in The New Yorker, and have my eye on the Hanna Liden big bird (bottom right). And Stephanie Seymour in the Jeff Koons? Sexy. Looks like they are all $28.



Next, get thee to Footaction on 7th & 34th at 3pm for an old school, bad-ass celebrity sighting: the Rev Run will be dropping by to promote the release of the "Icon Sneaker." Ladies, I may have to stalk him a little because Run-DMC is, well, remember the video for "Walk this Way?" Aerosmith has never been so cool.

Last, Steve & Barry's Laird Hamilton Wonderwall collection, a surf and skate apparel line for men, debuts today. Everything is $9.98 or less. Not familiar with Laird Hamilton? Girls, he's the hot blond surfer dude married to Gabrielle Reece and famous for mastering those crazy, 70 ft. waves. Take a cue from Laird's collection and plan a guy-centric night at home for the man. Rent Riding Giants, a seminal surfing movie starring Laird, surprise your guy with a new pair of Wonderwall board shorts (above), and dress yourself down with SJP's Bitten loungewear (this should include boy shorts). Works every time.

I'll Take a Cherry and an Apple

Pastry Kicks, wow, a marriage of food and bags. Well, almost. Look at these very girly and thus adorable bags that will be available at Footaction early next week:

sweet as pie! Do you see the cupcake pendant with the cherry on top ($75, far left, near left $25)? Because 34th Street is so special, we're one of five Footactions nationwide getting these bags for spring. Mmmm, hungry yet?!

And certainly this company's resistance is admirable, because you know they wanted to call themselves "Pastry Kicks Ass." Even if these aren't your style, you need to get one for a friend or sister. Or rethink your style, because Pastry Kicks aren't only street smart, I think they're pretty "early Gwen Stefani Le Sportsac: the jacked-up version." What I'm saying is get out the credit cards, neo-punk girls.

True Blue

What's it take to be a real collector, a true fan who is devoted to that which drives him to buy, love, and hoard? Ask Chris, the guy who's number one in line to buy a pair of the Carolina-blue, Tinker Hatfield-designed Air Jordan XX3's. If you're like him, you'd wait outside Foot Locker on 34th Street in cold January weather for four days to be the first of 23 to buy a pair.

Chris, (left, Mr. #1), came in from Jersey on Monday at 4pm, and will stay out here till the shoes go on sale Friday. So far, Foot Locker on 34th says they'll sell the shoes Friday morning, not after midnight on Thursday. [UPDATE] newest word from the store is Thursday - midnight, check back or call the store as this times seems arbitrary. [NEWEST UPDATE] Friday morning at 6am. Same for Footaction, Retro was right!

#2 (Mike) & #3 (Marco) in line got here yesterday. #4, Retro Will, a self-proclaimed "big sneakerhead," arrived this morning.

So what's the big deal? Obviously you're not a sneakerhead. This is the launch of the $230 limited-release shoes; there will be 23 pairs sold at 23 stores in the country. Retro Will says 8 of the 23 stores in the US are in New York City, and two of them are on 34th Street: Foot Locker and Footaction* at 1 Penn Plaza.

What are these guys going to do with the shoes once they have them? Chris, who owns 65 pairs of Air Jordans, says he "might wear them in a year or two." Retro Will has 40 pairs but likes to "double-up" his sneakers. He's going to have a hard time doing that with the blue XX3 as they're selling just one per customer; stores will have two in each size. For those of you interested, so far there's an 11, a 10 1/2, a 9 1/2, and an 8 in line*.

What these guys aren't doing with these shoes is reselling them (they could easily get over $1,000, probably on Friday morning at 10am). True collectors like Retro and Chris look down on such practices; Chris calls them "hypebeasts." I'm so adopting that term.

*If you're planning to wait in line, call ahead and find out the store's policy. Footaction is not admitting to selling the XX3 yet; they say call Thursday morning. But I'm thinking Retro Will is a good source. The guys say such tactics are used to weed out the "poison" - resellers.
