Meet Steve Madden at Macy's Herald Square

Tomorrow, from 6pm-9pm, you can stop by Macy's Herald Square's gorgeous new Shoe Salon on the second floor and meet footwear magnate Steve Madden.

Mr. Madden will be autographing branded T's and tote bags (free, see details above) and you'll get an opportunity to pose with him for a photo. I'd get there early as you know how these celebrity designer things go: busy, busy, busy!

All About Brasil at Macy's

It's most likely going to be Macy's Herald Square Week here on the blog. The Fashion Star finale is tonight, yesterday was The Map, today it's Brasil.

The hotbed of color and fun between the main escalators.

Tucked in between the escalators on the ground level (this is the hotbed of fun stuff at Macy's, see "New Year's Eve Ball") is a fabulous little display of all things Brasil called the O Mercado market. Well, all cute accessory things. There's a line of bags perfect for summer, Falchi by Falchi, designed exclusively for Macy's by Carlos Falchi, and tonight there's a big party in Herald Square with the legendary Sergio Mendes, a fashion show, and more to kickoff Macy's Brasil fun.

Gardens of Paradise Inside & Out: Brasil at Macy's Flower Show

The Flower Show at Macy's Herald Square is an event not to be missed, but this year there's a whole new angle: the flower show will be inside and outside the iconic store.

The tent is going up now in what we call Broadway Plaza, the public space that runs in front of Macy's at Herald Square. Fantastic, right?! The show will open Sunday, March 25th, and goes through April 7th, all during regular store hours.

Inspired by the vibrant plants and flowers of Brasil, expect a showstopper this year. There will still be gardens inside the store, including a special Gucci garden and interactive kid's garden, and don't miss the Carnaval celebration in the store windows or the Bouquet of the Day in the 34th Street windows. Why outside this year? Because the store has begun it's multi-million dollar renovations. And by multi I mean 400. This is going to be huge, and by the time it's all done (scheduled to go through Fall of 2015) Macy's Herald Square will boast the world's biggest shoe department. Trust me, they need it. The shoe department gets crazy business. And yes, us midtown shoppers do need to browse 300,000 pairs of shoes on any given day. We are New Yorkers.

Go For the Alternative Apparel

What's lacking in my wardrobe? Soft cotton blends cut with enough style to layer with serious day looks, then unwrap into less serious night fun. I don't do Alexander Wang's slouchy basics because I won't pay that much for T-shirts. Lucky for me, Alternative Apparel will now be filling that gap. Yesterday evening I dropped by the launch of the brand's new shop in Macy's Herald Square, took some pics, felt the cottons, fantasized about a weekend wearing their pants in a ski lodge, in front of a fire with the husband and something warm and strong in a mug, and it's snowing, and I look comfortable but very chic, and maybe the baby's at home with grandma....but back to the clothes.


 These are what the brand is all about, the T's look soft even in the photos.

I Heart Foreigner: Meet Charlotte Ronson & Mick Jones

Foreigner. Or maybe it was Foreigner opening up for Journey. It was a long time ago. Anyway, Mick Jones, famed Foreigner guitarist and songwriter, and his stepdaughter, designer Charlotte Ronson, will be at JCPenney Manhattan Mall this Thursday, June 17th, from 5pm - 7pm. They'll be giving away limited-edition T's* ** inspired by the legendary band's album art. This double appearance has good Father's Day potential for you 20-somethings.

I don't think the new dad in my family (husband) has ever seen Foreigner. Many, many times in the past have I been forced to defend my attendance at this first concert to punk rock and metal friends. Of course, their first shows were always Black Flag or The Bad Brains. But now the Ronsons have deemed Foreigner hip and I am free at last. Give it time, kids, as in fashion all things once deemed uncool will someday be reborn as hipster chic.

Danny Seo & Real Housewives at Manhattan's JCPenney

Real Housewives of New York City Jill Zarin, Kelly Bensimon, and LuAnn de Lesseps are invading JCPenney Manhattan Mall this Saturday, April 24th. They'll be helping eco-stylist Danny Seo collect used jeans for JCPenney's Denim Drive from 9:00am - 10:30am (the drive will continue till 6pm). The first 100 jeans donors will get a $25 gift certificate and the first 500 will get a free Simply Green reusable tote designed by Michelle Bohbot. And no, I formerly had no idea that eco-stylists even existed, but it sounds like a great career. Kids, sign up. I mean, look at Danny's Twitter and his blog: he's got my dream home!

And here's my problem, is it hideous, or kind of fabulous? I mean, it of course appeals to my bad heavy metal background, but my taste conscience is sorely tried by it. Then I was in Neiman's in Philly last week, and saw this Temperley London jacket:Aha! So not same-same, but I couldn't help but think of the Allen B again! Please go try this jacket on at Manhattan Mall after the Nicole Miller PA and give it to me straight. I need to either buy it or get this Allen B. out of my brain for good!

Gap Herald Square Polo Event

Today, tomorrow, and Sunday all men's and women's polos are just $15 at Gap. Ans not only are the polos on sale, but, at the Herald Square store, the photos are free, too. Gap Herald Square has a photo booth in the store for their polo event, and customers can take free photos! So stock up on some polos for spring and then get a picture of you modeling them.
