34th Street Weekend Sales Pick: The Old Navy Baby Sale

Because we're kind of buried with Fashion Week, and it's the slightly foggy day after Fashion's Night Out, we have just one special pick for you this week: The Famous Old Navy Baby Sale!

What, you don't have a baby? What about your friend who just had a baby? Your sister's baby? That co-worker who's going to have a baby? Get it? Go stock up on baby gift stuff! Old Navy is a great resource for packs of socks with non-slip soles, pajamas, cute dresses, and really cute baby hats. I know, I bought all of these things there and mom-tested them for you. Baby Herald and I give them all high marks.

Nicholas K for Spring 2012

Finale of Nicholas K Spring 2012 show

If Spring 2012 looks like Nicholas K, I will rethink my whole I Hate Spring/Summer Clothes thing.

Muted colors, draped layers, scarves all over the place, and sky-high tough armor shoes. Really, there's a lot here for any girl (and guy, menswear was also shown), but I'll call it urban-punk rock-hippie-desert-caravan chic. This is The Sheltering Sky 2012 (but without the really depressing ending).

Tour de Fashion! Borrow A Bike For Fashion Week

Barbara Randall, Fashion Center BID President, helps Betsey Johnson with her bike helmet.

Yesterday I stopped by The Fashion Center's tour de fashion press conference and enjoyed coffee while perusing fabulous designers and their bikes.

Bike enthusiast Matthew Modine (below right) was there, picking up bikes and posing in a headband. Very chic. Betsey Johnson made an appearance and gamely posed with her bike in the drizzling rain for photographers. And the lovely and talented jewelry and accessories designer Amrita Singh (below) posed next to her bike, that was decorated to suit a Maharaja or Maharani. Even better, her staff will be giving away goodie bags filled with jewelry the entire week of September 8-15 to everyone who rides her bicycle. That's seriously in the spirit of anything for fashion!

Where to pick up the bikes? Click here for all the info you need on the bikes, which riders can borrow for 60 minutes, plenty of time to ride between the Fashion District and Meatpacking, where many Fashion Week shows take place. I think in 60 minutes one could ride up to Lincoln Center, catch a show, then pedal back to Broadway and 40th Street. These bikes, available just during Fashion Week, will then be auctioned off to benefit the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Fashion Incubator program. Click here to start the bidding!

34th Street For Fashion's Night Out

I'm so proud that we made it prominently as a 'hood in the New York Post #FNO section today.

Click for all the fabulous 34th Street FNO events.

Go 34th Street! But I'd like to add a few more must-visits to the mix, starting with Swarovski. Our gorgeous Swarovski boutique on 34th Street and Seventh Avenue will feature:
  • Champagne and Cupcakes from 6 to 11 or as long as we hold out with supplies!
  • A “Glam Girl” crystal tattoo giveaway…no purchase necessary, while supplies last!
  • A gorgeous crystallized compact, a fashionista must-have, with any purchase over $150!
Also, Daffy's Herald Square will have 20% off all men's and ladies leathers and shearling jackets all day (September 8th only), Gap will have a band, drinks, and shopping incentives, and be sure to stop by H&M Herald Square to enter to win a night in New York City. H&M is also providing double-decker bus service between their Soho, Herald Square, and flagship store at 51st and Fifth Avenue.

Have fun tomorrow night, shop, and celebrate the incredible retail offerings our fashion capital has to offer.

Fashion Week Means Football

New York Fashion Week, in fall and spring, coincide with another very exciting American industry: football. During the spring shows in the fall, football season is kicking off. In-between attending shows I work in a first football afternoon with the husband, my girl in a Jets cheerbaby outfit, and a bowl of chips and queso. In February for fall shows, the Superbowl is gearing up. I think the DVF fall show even occurred during the mind-blowing Giants Superbowl win a few years ago, maybe? And Diane is a New York fan, of course!

Now you can get your team gear at Old Navy on 34th Street. But get there tomorrow because Superfan Nation ends on the 8th. I've already got two Jets jerseys (both quarterbacks, extra points if you guess who), my husband has one, and the baby has a new dress and matching turtleneck, or I'd get her one of these T's:

Buy it tomorrow while you can, because after we win the Superbowl all this Gang Green is going to be playing hard to get, baby!

FNO 2011: Win a Macy's $50 Gift Card

Where to go on 34th Street for Fashion's Night Out? You've got a lot of options. There's a great resource for all city events listings on the Fashion's Night Out website, just click on "Neighborhood" and then "Herald Square." But where am I going?

Macy's Herald Square, of course, and a drop by as many others between Fifth and Seventh Avenues on the way (more details on that tomorrow). All the festivities start early evening on Thursday night, but you can kick off the fun now by entering to win a $50 gift card from Macy's. Leave a comment here on the blog with your email,* and you're entered to win. Winner will be chosen by drawing on Friday September 9th at noon (contest ends at noon), the day after FNO. You can also follow me on Twitter and retweet my contest mentions for another entry.

Get the gift card and shop Alternative at Macy's Herald Square if you're in town (left), and if you're not, order that Bar III vest (right). Do I need to go on and on again about Bar III?! Let's just say it's one of the first departments I went to when shopping for fashion week.

*Don't want to leave your email? Be sure I can reach you on your blog, or check back on Friday and email me if you won. If we receive no response from the winner by Friday, September 16th, the card will go to the runner up, and so on and so on...

34th Street Weekend Sales Picks: The Labor Day Edition

Impossible to pick just a few, as there are great sales in abundance this weekend on 34th Street. So I'll give you a sampling, and can guarantee that the store next door or down the street will have an equally appealing sale. Happy end-of-summer shopping!

#1. Billabong
Because nothing says summer like Billabong, so celebrate the end of the season by stocking up at their BOGO 50% off sale. Check out the laptop bag that looks like a chic brown purse on the first floor.  112 W. 34th Street just west of Broadway

#2. Levi's
Because this beautiful new 34th Street boutique is having a great sale through next Wednesday: Spend $250 and get $100 off, or spend $150 and get $50 off. The new styles are very impressive (look for the green canvas dress, dark denim jumpsuit (below,) and Filson jeans, but don't forget the classics, like this dark denim jean jacket45 W. 34th Street just east of Sixth Avenue

#3. Express
Because they've got the red trend going on. On top of the $$ off coupon (go to website and print coupon) there is also a 40% off short-sleeve shirts, T's and tanks, intimates and scarves, 30% off all bags and belts, 25% off all wool outerwear, and 20% off all shoes. And their shoes (below) are, yes, killing it this season.   7 West 34th Street just west of Fifth Avenue, and Manhattan Mall, level 1, 33rd Street and Sixth Avenue
