Stella in Gap Herald Square

Yesterday I visited the Stella McCartney for GapKids at Gap Herald Square. Above is a selection of some looks available in the Herald Square store, and below are some of my picks. I love the collection, especially as a lot of it is unisex. Baby Herald wears a lot of her nephew's hand-me-downs, so we're already wearing unisex.

For those of you shopping for your petite selves, I still saw some XXL's, so run quick to Herald Square and check them out. But if I was fantasy shopping for Baby Herald, I'd stock up on the below:

Two items I want: check jacket, $68, and butterfly sweater, $58.












I just told a co-worker to get this for a baby shower: the dinosaur unzips and there are superhero pajamas (? or top+bottom) inside. I've got three nephews under the age of 8, anything dinosaur-designed is a big hit. I would also get the striped one-piece ($48), it's drop-crotch!












What I got Baby Herald: sneakers, below, from last season, on sale for $12.95. On the right are the sneakers for this season.










From what I hear, the anchor sweaters and the crochet dress are going fast. Also, the superhero T for the boys. Again, if you're interested in those items, I'd get to Gap Herald Square before the weekend crowds descend on Midtown Manhattan.

Stella for GapKids & babyGap

The new Stella McCartney for GapKids and babyGap will be in 34th Street on March 30th. I guess the date was pushed back. The clerks kindly gave me a flyer, and told me 34th Street wouldn't be getting the whole collection. I then asked her if the 5th Avenue flagship would be getting the entire collection, and she said no, neither store was. Hmm, perhaps they are splitting the collection up round town? Either way, I'll be dropping by not to stuff myself into some large kids sizes, but to browse for Baby Herald.


The baby battle today was over hats. I love hats while my husband scoffs at them. Unfortunately I had no veto power this afternoon and had to cede the hat battle because I had just behaved badly in "BRUS" (Babies-R-Us) due to a very strong Café Americano and excess exposure to baby merchandise, a combination that made my head spin Exorcist-style.

I recommend staying out of the BRUS clothing section and saving it and the strong coffee for Stella at Gap.

Get Mean with Green

With a cover like today's WWD, left, who cares about back issues? You Balenciaga, me poor....anyway, I'm behind in my trade mag reading but January 3rd's WWD cover says: "It's Only Natural: Eco-conscious apparel is gaining momentum for 2008." Who's not happy about that? I'm ecstatic that "green" jeans are the article's focus. By the way, it's impossible to find a photo of Mr. Green Jeans online (and why did I think he had his own show? Boy I was a dumb kid). So for lack of Mr. Green Jeans pics I've shown the Levi's Eco high-rise denim skirt (right, on sale for $29.98). Please don't wear it with those shoes and tights, Mrs. BrownAnklestraps GrayStockings.

Is this environmental cover story just showcasing another fleeting trend? I think not, as eco-consciousness is becoming a part of our ethos. And you've got power in that cute little bag made of recycled pop can tabs by Brazilian artisans in underdeveloped communities (what a bag, below). Just this morning I saw a hipster gal on the elevator toting it around with her floaty trapeze top. That's called buying power, the young are on it, and the industry powers-that-be will follow.

So what's green on 34th Street? H&M has a line of organic cotton basics, babyGap has an organic cotton collection but it's online only, and Macy's Herald Square sells Levi's & J Brand jeans, but do they carry any of their organic lines? I'm going to ask, and if you're interested in using your green to throw some eco weight around, so should you.
