Fashion Week Fall / Winter 2015: Charlotte Ronson, Ricardo Seco

Charlotte Ronson
Charlotte Ronson has perfected the ready-to-wear runway look. Not only is she a celebrity favorite among notables like Nicole Richie, Diane Kruger, Kate Moss and Leighton Meester, but her looks appeal to the everyday young professional who is both on point in the office and ready to go out after work.

The overall palette was predominantly neutral sticking mostly to grey, black, olive green, blue, and pink. Ronson added some unexpected pops of deeper colors with a burgundy lace dress which stood out among the softer neutral colors. Although I could have walked away with the entire collection, the burgundy lace dress was one of my favorites.

Her pieces are not only stunning but practical. They are effortlessly chic and combine high fashion and sophistication with wear-ability. Ronson’s collection was inspired by the balance of nature in an abstract setting and the purity of 60’s sportswear and construction paired with very feminine and delicate details. Her collection featured military- inspired trousers, cropped jackets, jersey dresses, sheer tops and knit sweaters. The chunky sweater and slowing fabrics exuded a cool effortlessness that made me envy the woman wearing them. Charlotte Ronson absolutely knows what girls want right now.

Ricardo Seco
Menswear with attitude is the simplest way to describe Seco’s collection. Effortless black and white pieces were selected for the Fall/Winter presentation at the New Museum. Leather, wool and cotton were some of the selected fabrics paired with impeccable and sophisticated fits. A pop of color was present on the on-going collaboration of the designer with New Balance, which complemented perfectly the monochromatic outfits. True to Seco’s Mexican origins, every piece had unique details inspired by traditional Mexican artisan’s work.

Fashion Week Fall / Winter 2015: Desigual and Nike Levi's Kids Rock!

Desigual
Desigual has a strong retail presence on 34th Street with two stores that are bold, bright, and gorgeous, all adjectives that aptly describe the brand's fall show. With hair crimped and teased big, and happily wearing Desigual's signature prints and fearless use of color, the models smiled jauntily down the runway, interacting with each other and the audience. These clothes are not for shy, retiring types. But I would recommend everyone to visit the store on Fifth and 34th next fall and look for the printed pants (always an incredible fit) and stunning sweaters. I am also a big fan of Desigual coats, accessories, and their fabulous kids line. My jury is still out with the runway knit pom-pom caps (pom-pom making gone wild, or fabulous?), but they sure do make a statement.

Nike Levi's Kids Rock!
Move over Gisele, the kids are in town. Dubbed the cutest fashion show around, the third annual Kids Rock! Fashion Show most definitely lived up to its name. The show instantly proved that kids do in fact rock, opening with a highly anticipated musical performance by 15-year-old singer songwriter and runner-up on season 2 of the X-Factor, Carly Rose Sonenclar. Adding to the roster of child greatness was 10-year-old DJ Kai Song who provided the tunes.

The show was presented by Haddad Brands and featured adorable child models and celeb offspring in looks from Nike, Nike SB, Jordan, Hurley, Levi, and Converse. All brands showcased head-to-toe looks highlighting a different aspect of what makes kids kids. Nike's looks were bold and powerful prints that inspired children to bring out the "Best in You" and drive the concept of a powerful transformation. Nike SB (Nike Skateboarding) embodied the creativity of youth united by skateboarding, with energetic designs complemented by the kids' runway struts. Jordan focused on the young athlete, while Converse forwarded their belief that unleashing kids' creative spirit will change the world. Hurley's collection was based on the love of the ocean and the passion of freedom of expression and the individual voice. Levi's is rooted in American Work Gear that has an effortless understated appeal.

This year the show partnered with Carmelo Anthony and the Carmelo Anthony Foundation, in which Carmelo gives back to the community through a variety of outreach programs and donations. The mission of this non-profit organization is to positively impact the lives of those living in under-served communities through 3 key focus- areas- education, recreation and community outreach.

Custo Barcelona Spring 2014

Custo Barcelona wove strong geometric patterns, shimmering metallics, and delicate transparencies into his looks for Spring 2014. Innerwear and swimwear were paired with heavier pieces, and were gently revealed to showcase the intricacy of Barcelona’s designs.

My eye was pulled most to the runway’s outerwear which had dynamic coloring, seamlessly integrated patterns, and flattering cuts. Each was a showstopper in their own right.
Custo has inspired me to up-the-ante with my style this spring, to spice up each look instead of relying on white button downs and black pencil skirts. When in doubt, I’ll throw in a gold visor for good measure.

Brandon Sun Spring 2014

I say this twice a year, but when I attend a show during fashion week that features separates and day wear, I'm always a bit relieved. Evening glam is fabulous for a runway, but a girl needs some everyday inspiration, too. Brandon Sun's spring collection was my breath of fresh air this season. The architecture of his clothing, that featured very little fur this season (Sun is known for his fur finesse), successfully showed off his ready-to-wear chops.

I'm a big fan of all the black, white, and gray tones shown during New York Fashion Week, and enjoyed seeing it all grouped together on the Sun platform with bits of bold orange and a more mellow green hue.

Models took turns walking the rectangular platform
The inspiration for this collection was the Japanese female samurai, but I liked how Sun kept the Asian influence subtle yet strong in silhouette. The lines spoke of clean minimalism while the details were enhanced with a variety of patterns, fabrics, and colors. As one of the newer designer entering the lists of fashion week, Brandon Sun is clearly a talent to watch.
