ruby and jenna Pop-Up Shop Update

The fabulous little ruby and jenna pop-up shop we've been loving ever since it popped up in the 34th Street district last May, has closed its 1282 Broadway location but promises to be moving soon "across the street."

"Across the street" could possibly mean that ruby and jenna will pop up in the Herald Center at 34th and Broadway. Wherever the shop lands, we're thrilled that it's continuing on in 34th Street. Last August, our fabulous intern LCogs visited ruby and jenna and swooned over the affordable options, and we totally concurred when she said "I absolutely adore everything in this store."

Yup, this is the time of year when one looks at summer clothes and dreams of  May.

1D World New York Pop-Ups at 2 Penn Plaza

Ever wonder "What's up with that massive old Borders space at 2 Penn Plaza?" Well, this weekend you can stop all that wondering, because One Direction is filling up the old Borders with, well, One Direction stuff.

From the One Direction Facebook page.

Exclusive merchandise, including over 125 products like One Direction onesies, varsity jackets, hoodies, beanies, and more, will be available at the pop-up on 33rd Street and Seventh Avenue. Yes, "onesies." Pop fans get younger every year. Also, there will be prize-winning opportunities on opening day, so all you One Directioners should definitely be there this Saturday!

Ex-Tannery House = Perfect Ricky's Halloween Superstore

Yes, the Tannery House has moved out of 211 W. 34th Street, which makes it a prime space for a holiday pop-in. And what suits the space more than a Ricky's Costume Superstore for Halloween?

Wood shingles, if done right, can be really, really scary.

Because this is Ricky's, you're going to get an excellent selection of false lashes, stockings, wigs, makeup, and stripper ruby slippers.

Shouldn't that Rihanna wig be on sale?

Of course there's tons of the usual masks, kids costumes, adult costumes, and every kind of Halloween accessory you could possibly need. I've seen bigger Halloween stores, but Ricky's generally has the best selection.

Adorable Addition: ruby and jenna

In what used to be a T-shirt store (not exactly missed by me) is now an adorable pop-up full of affordable and charming clothing, and a very strong showing of accessories, from ruby and jenna. We can only hope that ruby and jenna will stay on, but while they are on 34th Street (well, just south of 34th Street), let's make them feel at home with a lot of shopping. That is what we do best on 34th Street.

Best 34th Street Gifts, Day Three: Smart Toys

The old LOFT space is now a toy pop-up.
This one's a no-brainer. If you've got kids on your list, Smart Toys is your 34th Street toy, game, lego, and Elmo destination. And really, that's just the short list.

A shopping cart, good training ground.
Barbie is going to make her smarter, right?!
I like some Japanese animation in my toy store.
Lace-up practice, I love it!

There's a huge selection of Melissa and Doug, especially the classics.
I'm so getting this for the next office nerf war.

There's a huge selection of trucks!

Disney princesses are also well-represented.

Brilliant! Get two to save your parking space next snowstorm.
I hear Santa shops Smart Toys, too.

Will all these toys make the kid smarter? Probably as much as banging on a pot with a wooden spoon. But you're not putting pots and spoons under the Christmas tree from Santa, are you? All that banging will just interrupt your Christmas Day nap. And who can resist all those cute Melissa and Doug toys? Or a wall of trucks? Smart Toys also has a huge selection of board games, sporting balls, PlayMobils, a wall of Star Wars legos, and plenty of Fisher Price. There's a Toys-R-Us in Manhattan Mall, but Smart Toys has a lot more square footage, so I think you'll find just about everything here.
