Mango Basics: Leopard, Lace, Plaid + Studs

Once again, I found myself in Mango 34th Street wanting several dresses. I wished I owned those leopard print wedge booties, too. Yeah, they don't go with the white lace, but I might actually do them with the plaid!

Then I caught sight of these studded ties, freakin' brilliant:

Mango's a great scarf resource, too. I'll try to shop some other stores on 34th Street soon, but Mango's making that more difficult with each visit.

Behind the Scenes: Matters of Style Flash Fashion Show

Last week, I missed the surprise men's show at JCPenney Manhattan Mall, but I made the after party at the Ace Hotel and met up with Midtown Girl and Midtown Chap. It was a roomful of delicious drinks and beautiful people. I really love a JCPenney party, and that night I was feeling the full-on JCPenney glow as I'd just been to their spring press preview, where I ogled lovely tableau after lovely styled tableau. Every season the brands and their styles get better and better. I'm telling you people, JCPenney is a must stop on your shopping list.

But back to the men: This is all for Matters of Style, a new blog collab with Esquire Magazine which you can learn more about here. Above is highlights of the show and the party held after at the Ace right down the street. Yes, 34th Street doesn't just have great shopping, but we also have great hotels with very hip dining and drinking a stone's throw away. Just another reason to love New York City.

Three Kings Coat Drive at Dr. Jays

Last week at the Dr. Jays flagship on 34th Street, A Fabolous Way Foundation kicked off their winter coat drive. When you drop off one of your gently used coats, you get a 10% off coupon on your next purchase. You'll also be entered to win a meet-and-greet with Faboulous, founder of A Fabolous Way, and Robinson Cano and Ahmad Bradshaw, both of whom have joined Fabolous to help out New York Cares Coat Drive.

Fabolous kicking things off with a Yankees jacket, nice!
Trey Songz joins Fabolous and drops off one of the first coats.

Donate a coat and other winter gear, including hats, scarves, and gloves, in all sizes to Dr. Jays on 34th Street in the lower level. You can donate at the flagship or any Dr. Jays retail location in New York City and New Jersey.

Happy giving!

Aerosoles for Spring 2012

Here's what to look for at Aerosoles next spring:

The shoes above are my favorites, and naturally they had their own little table at the Aerosoles spring '11 press preview. The rest of the shoes were artfully placed around the suite in the London Hotel for optimal viewing. Here are more standouts:

Shoes with a view.

Lots of color block for spring shoes.

So many charming sandals.

Definitely my #2.

Lady wedge!

Adorable and delicious Eleni's cookies. These won't be in Aerosoles come spring, sorry!

We were gifted a pair of ankle black booties at the preview, and I'm smitten. They've been on my feet almost every other day since, as they're perfect with leggings and skirts. I'll admit I haven't worn Aerosoles in a long time, and now I'm a total convert for spring.

Bryant Park Shopper: Original Penguin's 8th Anniversary

From our sister blog over at Bryant Park today:

Join Original Penguin this Thursday as they celebrate 8 years in New York City. Lucky for us that their New York home is just across 6th Avenue from the park. Past parties at Original Penguin have included exclusive discounts, putting greens, drinks, snacks and great tunes. You don't want to miss the fun, so be sure to email originalpenguin.rsvp@pery.com to secure your invite.

I'm adding a few shots from the Original Penguin Bryant Park store as I dropped by late this afternoon. I'm now an Original Penguin convert. There's lots of men's, including Richard Chai for Original Penguin, and a very small section for women (staff told me there will soon be more women's styles). But what is in the women's section now is preppy chic perfection. Talk about well-edited. Go get that skirt! And the coat, and the really soft, really thin cotton sweaters, and the perfect logo T's that are 30% off....And let me reiterate what's already in the flier above: tomorrow night at the party, everything's 30% off. See you there.

Pink & green, making the Preppy Princess proud! Sorry you can't see the skirt but trust me, cut is great.

Christian Cota on the Rise at Aldo

Spotted at the 34th Street Aldo:

Red Pony buckle and shearling-lined, removable ankle collar Cota boots

The Aldo x Christian Cota collection, part of Aldo's Rise collaboration, now online and in stores. The red pony is speaking to me in a big way. And there's more fabulous channeling to come: here are some sketches from future Aldo Rise collaborations. I'm feeling weak in the knees...
