Sometimes, It's the Little Things

Ever since Aldo moved down the street next to Geox in a pretty new space, I've great enjoyed my shopping experiences there. Perhaps the new environment has made the staff happier, perhaps it's made me happier, and/or perhaps it's because their merchandise is more happily displayed.

This is the time of year I start losing one of my many pairs of sunglasses. Go pick up one of these bright, happy faux-ray bans, as they should get you through beach visits till the end of August.

It's Feeling Pre-Springtime

One morning last week I caught the changing of the guards at Aldo on 34th Street. Pretty wedge platform, don't you think? And those men's boots are looking ready for the mud. Bring it on, spring.

Call It Shoes: JCPenney + Aldo Call It Spring

I call it brilliant. New fabulous shoes are coming to Manhattan Mall this fall as another shop-within-a-shop opens for JCPenney (see Sephora and MNG by Mango, also this fall). However, the above looks more like a shop-just-outside-the-shop, because this is the first floor Manhattan Mall location formerly known as Toys"R"Us (toy shoppers can now find Toys"R"Us on the second floor). JCPenney occupies the two lower levels of the mall.

Call It Spring will be a permanent addition, and thus a pretty smart way for JCPenney to further expand their lower level mall presence onto the first floor. And it's a greatly needed shoe store addition to Manhattan Mall, as Call It Spring is an Aldo/JCP collaboration and will feature Aldo-like trends at Penny's prices.

The Manhattan Mall JCPenney will have Call It Spring first. Look for others in JCPenneys across the country in 2011.

Updated to add: Just heard from JCPenney PR, and they are pretty sure those signs on the first floor of Manhattan Mall, on the old Toys"R"Us space, are just advertisements, and are not indicative of the shop-within-a-shop-itself. Because it really is an exciting new shop-within-a-shop concept, and not some blogger fantasty shoe-shop-just-outside-the-shop concept. Now I shall furiously email Manhattan Mall and ask if they have any plans for this empty space...

Shoes and Divas

Although I ignored all the diva shoes at Bakers the other day, I couldn't help but shoot the ones on sale at Aldo on 34th Street:

A plethora of strappy, gladiator spike-heeled shoes, all up to 70% off.

My eye is on this open-toe suede boot also on sale. I know many are virulently opposed to the open-toe boot, but I can't help it. Give me a little weird and I'm in love.

Speaking of weird love, all you diva fans need to go to Armed and Akimbo and check out this campaign for an upcoming VH1 Divas commercial shoot. I know there's a lot of you out there in love with a diva or two, so go put that unhealthy obsession to good use. God knows I'd have been way overexposed at a young age if I could have expressed, on TV, my love for guitars, disheveled boys, and the really loud music they make together.

Looking For Cynthia's Shoes

I posted a query about Cynthia Rowley's great shoes on the Cynthia Rowley blog, and her staff promptly replied. It's very embarrassing that I'm all cheesy and ask her if she's "going to do shoes," and of course the shoes are hers! Oh well, once a geek....Sadly, the shoes are sold out.

But I've been prowling 34th Street, where there is nothing similar although I still have to check out the entire Macy's shoe floor on 5. Usually I get stuck right by the elevator amongst the Hale Bobs, the Betsey Johnsons, the Biviels, the Fryes, the Sam Edelmans, et al. Here are some eye-catchers, not necessarily anything like Cynthia's. First up, Steve Madden:







Aileenn $99.95 (warning, these are patent); Togga $99.95; and the very fun Blosommm, black & multi-colored, $69.95. Get the feeling Steve Madden is running out of shoe names?

Paramaribo $100, Celabinsk $64.98, and Kolwezi, black and brown, $64.98. I wish the heel on the oxford was different (maybe chunkier & taller?) but I love the idea of a beige oxford shoe boot. And the heel height on the Kolwezi rivals Gwenyth's McQueens.

I also dropped by Shoe Mania and saw nothing like the Cynthia but discovered these:


Have you guys heard of Pikolinos? I kind of fell in love; they are so hippy and hand-crafted and environmentally conscious (but not vegan!). I'm grooving on the natural look of the sandals, especially for this season although these shoes are definitely lifers, don't you think? Here's some more from their website, but not seen at Shoe Mania. I really covet the ankle strap flat in the middle.
