34th Street Weekend Sale Picks: Shorts Galore & Summer Goodness

Intern LCogs writes up sales on 34th Street for the weekend...

#1. American Eagle

Because they've got a great deal on summer clothing! If you buy one pair of shorts you can get a second pair for only $10. There are shorts with flower patterns, white washed pairs and ones with fun glitter pockets. They're really short shorts though, so if that's not a style you're into they've got a deal on tank-tops (some with lace on the back) as well as dresses. The one below also comes in navy blue. 40 W. 34th Street.

#2. Who.A.U

Because they're having a Hot Summer Sale! All shorts are 30% off. Summery dresses, tanks, and t-shirts are on sale throughout the store as well. 22 W. 34th St.

#3. Levi's

Because their already reduced items get an additional 30% off! I've always regarded Levi's as a really reliable brand in terms of quality. Their jeans last me a long time and are always comfortable. 45 W. 34th St.

#4. Uniqlo

Because they've got an assortment of clothing on sale! Colorful summer items such as tank-tops, dresses, skirt and shorts. They also have summer beach hats on sale as well as their infamous AIRism t-shirts and comfy lounge wear. 31 W. 34th St.

#5. Aldo

Because they're having an extra 30% off all sale footwear! Not only that, but they also have 2 for $20 sunglasses and a bunch of purses that are 50% off. 27 W. 34th St.

34th Street Weekend Sale Picks: Summer Sale Edition

#1. Gap
Because they've got 40% off already reduced items. This means yes, I bought another kids bathing suit for my girl. Also, when you visit the Herald Square store please keep in mind that renovations are not yet finished! We incorrectly reported a few weeks ago that renovations were complete, but they aren't, so don't panic when you walk into what seems like a greatly reduced store. When completed, the upstairs will be all women's, and the downstairs will be men's, kid's, baby and maternity.  60 West 34th Street

Online it's on sale for $15.99, in Herald Square I got it for $8.99. Just sayin...

#2.  Aldo
Because they're have a big sale, and you can get shoes up to 70% off. Personally I'm stalking their designer collab Rise collections that I'm always raving about.  27 West 34th Street

#3.  WHO.A.U
Because they are having a "Hot Summer" sale of up to 50% off. I know it doesn't feel like plaid shirt weather (or fleece weather), but if you can find any stock up for winter because their plaids are the best on the block. Ditto to the polo's, and don't forget their patch station where you can customize your vest, jacket, etc.  22 West 34th Street

The Aldo Rise collection is 50% off. Hold me, because I'm feeling a little verklempt and I have to decide...

Preen?

Impossible to choose. But if you had a knife on me, I'd go with Preen. I'll be in the 34th Street Aldo boutique tomorrow tweeting out selection, so tune in for specifics.(updated to add: I'll be there Wednesday, the rain got the best of me today).

Christian Cota on the Rise at Aldo

Spotted at the 34th Street Aldo:

Red Pony buckle and shearling-lined, removable ankle collar Cota boots

The Aldo x Christian Cota collection, part of Aldo's Rise collaboration, now online and in stores. The red pony is speaking to me in a big way. And there's more fabulous channeling to come: here are some sketches from future Aldo Rise collaborations. I'm feeling weak in the knees...

Sometimes, It's the Little Things

Ever since Aldo moved down the street next to Geox in a pretty new space, I've great enjoyed my shopping experiences there. Perhaps the new environment has made the staff happier, perhaps it's made me happier, and/or perhaps it's because their merchandise is more happily displayed.

This is the time of year I start losing one of my many pairs of sunglasses. Go pick up one of these bright, happy faux-ray bans, as they should get you through beach visits till the end of August.

34th Street Weekend Sales Picks For Hot Summer Days

#1. Express

Because they've got a BOGO 1/2 off all pants sale, including shorts, and we all need sequined short shorts to get through the dog days of summer.  7 West 34th Street and Manhattan Mall, 1st floor

#2. Aldo
Because they have racks of up-to-50% off summer sandals and heels. And I'm still excited about the Preen x Aldo news for Spring/Summer 2012.  27 West 34th Street

How sweet it is.

#3. Dr. Jay's
Because they have a wall full of bikinis and tankinis on sale, most for $19.99, and a new bikini is just what you need for the beach this weekend. Also, the newly renovated store is a hundred times easier to shop and there's a big Levi's section.  17 W. 34th Street

Playing Nicely Together on 34th Street: Aldo & H&M

I was digging through some photos and found these clogs ($80 + maybe some change):

which I spotted in the window at Aldo last month. They reminded me of this ($69.95 at H&M Herald Square a few weeks ago). It's not a poncho if you don't show off the crazy shape by touching your hair:

However, these Aldos ($100 and maybe some change):

I don't think I can do anymore. I had to take off my heels at a wedding on Sunday and wear flip-flops (sigh, a first). I'm going to blame it on toting Baby Herald up and down stairs. But this H&M jumpsuit:

yes can do, and I almost bought it but it's just a bit too short for me.

34th Street Rumors: Imminent House of Hoops Arrival?

The New York Observer House of Hoops 125th Street photo courtesy of leesean via Flickr

The New York Observer heard it first, and I'm looking for confirmation from Foot Locker* **, but in the meantime I can moan: Where will Bakers go? I so had them in 11 West 34th, the old Shoe Mania shop, but looks like I'm wrong. Instead, as reported by the Observer, House of Hoops is possibly moving in to 11 West 34th.

Perhaps Bakers is not re-opening their 34th Street store (before Desigual it was Bakers Shoes). Again, I'm trying to get some confirmation. This would make me very sad as then Aldo would be the reigning, 34th Street under-$100 trend resource (just like Kelly Cutrone's very cute boots). I don't like a shoe-opoly, as when I get bitchy sales staff I prefer to walk out of their store and stroll into their competitor down the block. Of course, there's still Steve Madden, but I consider Steve Madden a step above the Aldos and the Bakers. You know, like a $30-$50 step.

I also noticed this while browsing Bakers' site:

H as in Huh? H by Halston shoes? Now available at Bakers. And yes, if you call it multi-glitter I will buy it.

*Yes, this is confirmed, so Welcome HOH to 34th Street! We'd like a big party with Lebron James, please, for the opening, maybe throw in a little Paul Pierce (♥) and don't forget to invite us, k thanks.

**This is not confirmed. House of Hoops on 34th Street is back to being a rumor!

Aldo's New 34th Street Digs

Aldo has moved down the block on 34th Street and the new store is open. It looks a little smaller than the old store, but it's more sleek and easier to browse for shoes.

So don't freak if, in the near future, you walk past the old location and see no Aldo. Just walk two doors down toward 6th to their new airy digs. Geox should be joining them soon next door.

Progress on Geox: the main floor, and the staircase. It was after 5pm, so yes, time for the guy's smoke break.

And what's going in the old Aldo space? For now, it's still open and having a big sale: everything in the store is up to 70% off.

I've heard some rumors about what may be coming in to Aldo's old home, but I can't confirm. Let's just say so far it's possibly a clothing store, and one that's been expanding during these recessionary times. So now we've got two rumors to confirm. Mucho excitement here on Block 34.

Shoes and Divas

Although I ignored all the diva shoes at Bakers the other day, I couldn't help but shoot the ones on sale at Aldo on 34th Street:

A plethora of strappy, gladiator spike-heeled shoes, all up to 70% off.

My eye is on this open-toe suede boot also on sale. I know many are virulently opposed to the open-toe boot, but I can't help it. Give me a little weird and I'm in love.

Speaking of weird love, all you diva fans need to go to Armed and Akimbo and check out this campaign for an upcoming VH1 Divas commercial shoot. I know there's a lot of you out there in love with a diva or two, so go put that unhealthy obsession to good use. God knows I'd have been way overexposed at a young age if I could have expressed, on TV, my love for guitars, disheveled boys, and the really loud music they make together.
