Desigual Spring 2014

You don't usually see models smiling and bouncing down the runway (unless you're watching the Victoria Secret fashion show), and especially not during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. But happy energy works for retailers like Desigual that sell a lifestyle along with their clothes. The optimism and liveliness - from the bright colors and patterns, the smiles, and the upbeat music - was contagious and goes hand in hand with the brand's motto "La Vida es Chula" - or "Life is Cool."

You really feel the spirit of Barcelona in the ready-to-wear collection, with the brightly colored floral and geometric patterns.  The floppy hats bring you to warm vacation days, relaxing in the sun by the water.

The black-and-white pieces provided visual breaks from the sea of color, in time for us to focus on the dominating patterns of stripes and graffiti scribbles.

These baggy stripped pants with the abstract polka dot pattern caught my eye, as they catch movement beautifully.

I personally loved the red, white, and blue color series and the mixing of nautical stripes with bold floral. The sketches of Barcelona on the dress and trench were a nice touch that referenced Desigual's Spanish roots and the colorful town that inspired their collection.

Look out for this line next Spring at one of their two 34th Street locations!
