Victoria's Secret Herald Square: The Renovation Update

Victoria's Secret is playing musical stores this summer while they renovate their Herald Square store to make it an even bigger lingerie destination. A 50,000 square foot lingerie destination, to be exact, which means they are more than doubling their current size. The space will now be big enough to "have its own runway for fashion events."

Soon to be even bigger and better.

The Herald Square flagship has acquired 30,000 square feet of lower level parking garage under their store, and obviously need some time to get rid of that parking-garage feel. In the meantime, they will be moving to Manhattan Mall in what was Charlotte Russe. The Herald Square location will close the end of May, and the Manhattan Mall location will open mid-to-late May.

Coming soon!

This will make two Victoria Secrets in the mall*, but we're used to seeing double in the 34th Street district: we've got two Foot Lockers (and one House of Hoops by Foot Locker), two Victoria's Secrets, two H&Ms, two Desiguals, two Paylesses, two AĆ©ropostales ...we've got a lot of twos.

I hope people won't be panicking in front of the Herald Square Victoria's Secret like they are at the temporarily-closed Zara down the street (seriously, daily I see women shaking and pounding on the locked door and peering through the dark glass). With VS you've got an option: walk down Broadway to 33rd Street and look for Manhattan Mall across from Greeley Square. Walk through the doors. Victoria's Secret will be waiting for you at the end of the first floor, or at its permanent location on the second floor.*

*I don't know if the first floor location will become permanent, or if the second floor location will close, as Victoria's Secret could not yet comment on this. Either way, Victoria's Secret will be well-represented in Manhattan Mall!

34th Street Weekend Sales Picks: The Manhattan Mall Edition

#1.  Express
Because I'm super impressed with Express these days. And all bottoms are BOGO 50% off. And their skinny jean leggings are really awesome (fit and color are fabulous). SERIOUSLY if you want the blue buy them fast, there weren't many left!  33rd Street at Sixth Avenue, level 1

And how adorable is the blue blouse? So cute I hardly mind the matchy-matchy!

#2. Charlotte Russe
Because their faux pleather jackets lured me into the store, but the shoe and jewelry sale kept me browsing. Jewelry is 2 for $10, shoes are BOGO for $15.50, and they do have some killer corsets for Halloween from $20.  33rd Street at Sixth Avenue, level 1

This isn't on sale, but it's so cute I had to post it.

#3.  JCPenney
Because you can knock out a big chunk of your holiday shopping at their new WRAPT gift boutique in store at Manhattan Mall. And most of the brands like The Smile Shop and X-Treme Geek are BOGO 50% off. Go to town, Santa.  33rd Street at Sixth Avenue, lower levels 1 & 2

Eric Daman for Charlotte Russe: Party Dresses

Perfect for prom.
My pick.

I went to Charlotte Russe yesterday to try on the Eric Daman line of dresses, not exactly looking forward to it as junior-sized party dresses aren't my thing. But I left lusting for the red rose dress. I call it "adorable" and would buy it if I had any need for such dresses. Actually, though, this would be a fantastic layer piece, I'd do a long black cardigan on top, or a long black jacket and Chuck Taylors. Feeling a little mid-80's yet? Kati saw this picture and said "Put a flannel on top and it's so 90210 circa 90's." We've got both our decades covered.

The detail and quality of the collection is most impressive. I won't even say "It's good quality for dresses under $45," because it's all around just good quality. Daman did a really nice job with the fabric and details. These four dresses are the only styles in Charlotte Russe Manhattan Mall right now. I'd also like to thank Mr. Daman as I tried on a large in the pink thinking I'd need it, and it was a little big! The red large, however, fits really snug.

There are little hearts in the sheer netting! Valentine's Day dress alert.

And Charlotte Russe is helping us get technical with QR codes. Scan the code on the sign in the store (or like their facebook page) and print the coupon for free jewelry. Click for more details, and to check out their cute QR code.

Charlotte Russe Revisited

First in our weekly Wednesday staff guest posts! Please welcome Kati today as she explores Charlotte Russe in Manhattan Mall.

I haven’t been to Charlotte Russe since I used to shop there for hot tops as a fifteen year old. Good for a wear-it-once-and-get-tired-of-it blouse here and there, I didn’t think very highly of the store back then. So it was with some strong prejudices that I stopped by the Manhattan Mall location last night, on special assignment from Fashion Herald.

First impression: I almost fell over in shock when 3 store associates welcomed me with genuine smiles and greetings. The store was cleaner than I expected, and even more well organized (an area where other discount stores often fall short). Still nervous about trying on teenage hot tops, I set out to find some more respectable pieces.

They had several different printed ruffled shirts, paired with detailed sweaters. The halter tops I tried hung strangely at the bottom; a problem that might have been resolved with a smaller size. However, I really liked the lacey inset detail on the black sweater.

I tried a couple of dresses, but could hardly focus on the clothes when I realized this was the dreaded annual event –the Spring Reveal of my long lost bare legs after months tucked under layers. After adjusting to the blinding white light coming from my legs, I saw the way cute Oxford-style Shirt dress I had on. Thinking I’d love to wear this on the Fourth of July, I almost bought this for only $26.99! Then I remembered that is 6 MONTHS away. I also liked the more structured dress, and could see it adapting to different seasons with the right accessories.

They have an entire wall devoted to denim, so I tried a pair of denim leggings. And was shocked… I loved them! They were only $29.99 and could not have been more comfortable. The soft acid-washed tees are 50% off of $8.99 right now. Which is about 80% less than I pay for similarly distressed V-Neck Tee shirts at another retailer (American Apparel).

All in all, I was surprised with the amount of stuff I actually liked. Charlotte, my dear, you defied my misconceptions! And not a hot top in sight…
