Oh, Kira

Oh, Kira Plastinina, why did you have to shut all your US stores during a snow/rain/and briefly hail storm? I guess that made it a little more dramatic, yes? And sort of depressing yet funny, just like my favorite Russian books.

Walking down 6th Avenue yesterday toward 34th Street and the last hours of Kira Plastinina.

Big fluffy white hat, not very Lara/Dr. Zhivago on me. A pink slicker I would have bought if there was a large.

And just like me in your clothes: a little depressing (I'll never be 16 again, praise all the lords), and yet funny (did I dress like this at 16? No, I looked much worse). Oh, Kira, I'm REALLY going to miss you.

The store, on closing day, empty except for me and the courteous salesgirl who, in between assisting me, was shredding paper way back there in the corner. Hmmm....

H&M CdG Winner! + More

Kati just drew names out of a hat, and the winner is:

Miss Woo! Congratulations, Miss Woo, you've won a red polka dot CdG for H&M cardi. Email me your address and I'll ship it off today. Really, this is a tough one to part with.

But there's a small consolation prize for you non-polka dot-winners: email me your address if you'd like a Macy's Friends & Family card, good for 20% off almost everything from Wednesday, December 10th through Monday December 15th. Go here to get the online code if you're into that internet shopping thing.

And Kira Plastinina has a 1/2 off everything in store. Look for one of these hats:

Very Lara-Dr. Zhivago, very Dr. Seuss.

And I wish you could personalize these:

This week mine would say "make me warm!" And I want to be able to move the letters around as my mood demands, so next week it could read: "karma! meewm." What will your personalized knit cap say?

Texting Kira

Kira Plastinina and I are like BFF. I mean, we like text each other all the time. Like just now I texted "Kira" to 79704 and she like totally texted me right back! XOXO, Kira!

Kira giving me 20% off because we're such good friends. And the Charms blow pop I got at her store? Totally free! Kira hearts me.

But, seriously, I have to say thanks to the Kira Plastinina manager on 34th Street because yesterday, when I dropped by to get shopping bags for our new 34th Street brochure cover, she was very lovely and accommodating. And Kira Plastinina has the best bags, I recommend them for everyone's brochure cover photo shoot:

The manager also told me about this texting thing. Naturally, Ancient Blogger Lady recently learned how to text and good thing, as I'm just in time to get 20% off my Kira Plastinina purchase. First up, these adorable black boots ($98) I found on her website:

I don't know if these are in the 34th Street store, I'll check on that later. In the meantime, everyone needs to text Kira like, right now! BFF Forever!

**
Sting Sweater contest reminder**
Any takers? It's all WendyB's if, by the end of the day, I have zero entries. She is the next degree of separation to the Sting sweater. Remember her scores at the Trudie Styler sale? And speaking of Wendy, don't miss this post. How to choose, I want so many! I think Kira needs a fruit necklace, I'm totally texting her right now.

Kira Plastinina Week, Day 6

Final Day! Don't be sad, it features some real gems, including this strapless bustle skirt/dress thing ($58):

Which reminds me once again why I ran track and didn't try out for cheerleading. I bet Kira looks mucho mas cute in this dress than Ancient Blogger Lady. But I appeased myself with the best fitting, lace-trimmed tank top ($20) I've ever tried on. It's the best fitting because it gives me cleavage, a near impossible feat:

ouch, everything in this picture is a little too small!

And here's a pseudo-flashdance shirt. It's virtually impossible for me to pass up anything that looks remotely like Jennifer Beals in Flashdance.

And the coup de grace, the Pinky Tuscadero jacket ($50). I may buy it just to be Pinky Tuscadero for Halloween this year. Or to start my own gang of Pinkettes. Because everyone knows Pinky Tuscadero was the baddest, hot-rod driving girl on prime-time TV. Except for her little sister, Leather, of course.

Kira Plastinina Week, Day 5

While I'm on vacation this week and away from internet access, I've pre-posted Kira Plastinina Week. So I won't be visiting all my favorite blogs but look forward to catching up next week, when I'll also post the Fit Flop winners.

For Friday, major miscellaneous Plastinina:

Again, the fit was close for me on most of the pants but I'm just too big. Except for the jodhpurs ($58) and I was tempted to buy them, but I'm waiting to see what other jodhpurs 34th Street has to offer. Which means I'll probably end up missing out on jodhpurs this season. Other favorites are the light grey and pink cowl neck with the abnormally long sleeves, and the cropped 80's turleneck sweater ($38), which I think would be great layered over a dress.

Kira Plastinina Week, Day 4

Updated to add: Just a reminder, while I'm on vacation this week, and away from internet access, I've preposted Kira Plastinina Week. I'll announce the Fit Flop winners on Monday.

Time to get serious and tell you what I love about Kira Plastinina on 34th Street. But first, another Lady story! Rebecca was kind enough to bring me a dress she most likely thought would be more Lady - appropriate. Meaning not pink booty shorts. Every shopper should be so lucky to have a Rebecca, as her grey satin dress was such an inspired choice I almost bought it for the wedding last weekend. Unfortunately, my photographs didn't do it justice at all, so I'm not showing it. But here are some other examples that may appeal to us 16+++'ers:

black off-shoulder dress and top

wear w/tights to the office come fall

pretty sheer blouse w/reversible belt; layer it!

pleated bubble-skirt dress, love it and would buy it but too small:(

The clothes are a deal at the price point ($20 - $90 and up, but not much), fabrics are solid, cut is good and sizing is consistent. I can tell because I'm slightly too big for the large, but everything was close to being just right. For a junior line on me, that's a miracle. Serious conclusion? I was IMPRESSED and pleasantly surprised. Well done, Plastinina.

Kira Plastinina Week, Day 3

I must give kudos to the adorable and professional sales staff Kira has on 34th Street. They're so good they all kept a straight face as I selected many booty shorts for trying on. Rebecca, you were polite, patient, perfectly attentive, and refrained from attacking me with a pink knife when I didn't buy a thing after giving you almost 50 items to put in my gigantic dressing room.

That gigantic dressing room is the Taj Mahal of pink dressing rooms (see Monday's post). I'm not going to insinuate that Rebecca gave me the big room because I'm so, um, mature, and they thought it'd be easier to drag my ancient body out of there after I keeled over from excessive clothes changing. But while I was shoving a regular-sized leg into a pair of junior-sized jeans, a salesgirl came back to check on Rebecca and her teen +++ client: "How's the Lady doing?" Oh, I foresee a beautiful working relationship with the Kira-ettes! Just keep calling me Lady, girlies, and bring me some tea and biscuits, pronto!

The Lady, at that exact moment, was trying on these for eeps:

I'm not quite sure what that hoodie says as I can't remember where I left my reading glasses. But I'm pretty sure it's Russian for "Stop ruining my clothes, ancient blogger Lady!"

Kira Plastinina Week, Day 2

Let's start with the shiny stuff from Kira Plastinina on 34th Street:

This silver sequin dress is $88, and well made: NO sequins fell off when I dragged it over my head, and this dress was small for me so I was really yanking.

I'm super tempted by this gold dress, $68. Bravo, Kira! This dress is cute, love the sleeves and the gathering at the neck. Can see this with some black latex tights. Or maybe shiny gold tights. Am I losing my mind?
