Abaete on TV

Here's some pics of the Abaete Spring 2009 show. I was one person back from getting into the show today when they cut off the standing room line. Luckily I left the camcorder in the office and just used my trusty digital camera to shoot these:

I'm such a big shot they let me watch the show in the lobby, on TV, while the real show is going on just steps away. See how glamorous fashion week is?

Praying to Payless shoe god, let these be in Payless come Spring 2009.

Flirty! And no one looks good in that color
stocking.

Please be a unitard. I love you unitard + skirt!

Hmm, unitard+skirt to poufy pretty dress?

Yes to pinkier stockings.

Unitard, is that you? I love this, I could totally bike to work in it. And then get sent home. No, really, I know this is weird but I love weird. This is kind of why I love Laura Poretsky. That and her Payless diffusion line.

By the way, I even kissed ass by wearing these Abaete for Payless shoes:

Which was tough today after breaking in the new Abaete's yesterday, Fashion Week Day One:

Meet my new, favorite Fashion Week accessory:

**UPDATE** from Abaete's PR agency, news that makes me very happy. And shows me how bad TV picture color is:

Almost the same photo I have up there, and yet so very, very different;

Those are some hot, badass shoes and yes, they will be in Payless next spring. So praying to shoe gods does really work!

Luddite Blogging

That's it, I'm becoming a Luddite. Technology is NOT my friend. I begged and pleaded with George, "Please get a new camcorder, PLEASE!!!" George, sick to death of my begging for things (laptop, iphone, iphone, iphone, laptop), caved. George, stop giving in to my demands cause I tried like a fool to shoot Rosa Cha today but the aperture setting was all wrong. Ha, like I know WTF an aperture is! George stopped giving me manuals ages ago. No way am I reading some boring manual.

Luckily, Brad from 3Knights Media has since shown me the thing I want electronics companies to put on everything they make: an EASY button. Brad, after spending 5 minutes repeating the same thing over and over to me with me responding "Where? How did you get to that? Wait, do that again" finally said, "Just hit the easy button." OK, now you're talking my language! An EASY button! Brilliant!

Rosa Cha, all bathing suits, and all gorgeous. Lots of this beautiful blue-green, aqua color loveliness, lots of model cheeks bouncing around (thank Mr. Rosa Cha for using models with some junk in the trunk, thus making the skeletal girls really stand out and look bad), lots of shiny straps closing the show (not trash shine but meet-me-at-Cannes shine), a beautiful, long, cover-up thing that tripped up Chanel Iman a bit, and one of the best tankinis I've ever seen. We all know how bad tankinis can be.

And who really cares if I don't have video, we can all see it on style.com tomorrows anyway. Since I need a photo of something, let's check out how my office looked yesterday:

The shoes under the desk are just a small sampling of the shoe collection that resides in my bottom drawer.

This cannot be any kind of reflection on #1 Fan (moms). I got some weird, mutant gene that ate her obsessive clean gene and created the above. Now you all know why I love Chaos.

Fast and Daffy

Today was fun but nothing technically went right. So, no video of Perry Ellis or Ruben Singer, the two shows I was luckily invited to for today. Hung out with Xmastime and had to shush him at Perry Ellis when he discovered it was men only and started booing the boys. Loudly. Straight guys, what can you do?!

Instead I have pics of a Miss Les Copains skirt ($49.99) someone must go buy at Daffy's on 34th Street. And, as the guys from 3Knights Media join us tomorrow, we should be straightened out technically and have lots of goofy, model-heckling videos for you soon. That is, if I'm not kicked out of the tents before then.

it's peasant, it's boho, it's chic! it's cheap!

Burch-Borges Reviews

Check out Butterfly Diary and eye4style for great reviews of the Burch-Borges show last night. Here are some extras from moi:

This guy (designer John Mollett) is ballsy and not afraid of color and embellishment;
I love that he uses an older male model who looks like he's been hibernating in the mountains to open and close his shows. Again, balls;

The other models were so young some still had baby fat cheeks;

I want to get my husband one of the embroidered jackets; they're the contemporary interpretation of Gram Parson's Manuel jackets;

The woman's collection was a nice surprise. On the whole simple, classy, and am looking forward to seeing more in the future.

Some badly taken pictures:

Love the jacket on Mountain Man.

Love the dress version.

It was hot as heck in there. This would have been me & my sweaty underarms if I was on that runway.

And some short, wobbly videos:

Entrances/exits can be tough.

The fabulous peacock jacket.

I'm Daft

Who, besides me, does her shopping for fashion week 1-2 days before it begins? Just curious, as I don't want to be the only dumbass running desperately around midtown. But really I'm not stressing too much as if you're not a celeb, socialite or famous editor, no one's really looking. So I just try and make a bigger effort with the clothes. You know, get all the cat hair off.

Of course I'll be wearing......34th Street. And a lot from Daffy's, too, as I spent many hours in there yesterday and am going back today to look for this:

The item (Patrizia Pepe, $69.99) that I should have bought and couldn't stop thinking about this morning. It's ridiculous. It's a great layering piece. I love it.

Also, a heads up to you midtown girls: Daffy's pickings are prime this week. I'll be posting Daffy's daily through the weekend. Right now, on the sixth floor by the dressing room, there is a major designer happening: Chloe, Valentino, Marc Jacobs and Sonia Rykiel amongst others. I'm not sure if it's last season or older, but the pieces are mostly classic looking. Prices run from $49.99 - $189.99.

Buy One What This Season?

Common query found in magazines each new season: "If you could only get one new item this season, what would it be?" I think I'd be really interested in the answer if the ante were upped. As in, "Dear Fashion Editor/NYC socialite/other big shot: You can only get one new item this season. For real. Name it!" Certainly it will no longer be "long cardigan layering piece," but "Balenciaga LBD! No, wait, the YSL pants! Nooo, shit, a Balmain dress!"

Here's something I had to buy right away this season:

No, this isn't my pick. But last winter I didn't look for fingerless gloves till December. And then they were nowhere to be found. So when I saw these at H&M on 34th Street, I snatched up two pairs (one extra to make up for last year's pain; they're $7.80). These gloves aren't even exactly what I wanted. And once home I thought "totally impractical for winter!" Then I thought "layering piece!"Anything dumb you buy this year can be dubbed "layering piece."

And you, is there something you have to have? If you'd like to play, pretend it's the only thing you can buy till the end of this season. Here's my pool of candidates from two favorite designers (photos from style.com):

I really want those Demeulemeester lace-up boots with the furry vest, the Azrouel leather pants, or one of his dresses (first & second pic):

This game is really hard to play.

Exclusively Online, Or Not

This was in my inbox today: limited edition European Collection. I hadn't seen any European Collection in Gap recently, and was worried. What will I buy at Gap just because it's "European?"

So now it's available but exclusively online. This means I won't find it on the sale racks for $10 or $24. And here's their selection of "Limited" EC boots:

Are these Pierre Hardy? Just say so, Gap. I'm kind of ho-hum on these, although the Mid-Boot ($178) is a good classic, and the heeled desert boot ($138) is weird and intriguing, but looks clunky in the photo. Both have rubber soles, ugh. I know, a desert boot has rubber soles, but they always trip me up. And the black boot, grandma or cute? I might order them all to check out the fit/look, because these boots need to be seen in person (basic cute, or basic dull?). Perhaps Gap was unhappy with all the discounted Pierre Hardy from last season, so now they give us less style and even fewer sizes. The new shoes are available only in 6, 6.5, 7, 8 & 9.

As for the clothes, they weren't kidding when they said limited. I couldn't even find the black separates (or dress?) from their ad, below right:

But this I'd like to try on:

The baltic blue jewel tone dress ($78) and the texture cropped jacket ($98). Note her cute, good grandma lace-up boot on the dress. I don't see these for sale, people. Grrr. And when I was hopped over to Piperlime to check out new boots, I couldn't find this hot bootie (top), either:

No, the beautiful, fold-over brown bootie with the wooden heel is not for sale at Piperlime. The black, Rachel Zoe pick with no wooden heel is where one is directed instead. No, thanks, Rachel, if just for pure annoyance's sake.

Enough. I'm going to go check out some IRL stuff on 34th Street. And who knows, perhaps Gap will have some of this in store one day?
