How hot out is it? So hot my brain overheated and forced me to walk around the apartment in this yesterday evening:
This cheap skirt ($7) masquerading as a dress was bought last year at a discount store on 34th Street (between 7th & 8th). I rediscovered it during spring wardrobe editing and tried to salvage it and its too-tight elastic waistband. After a little seek and destroy mission on the elastic, I gave up and began to cut the waist off entirely (was I thinking headwrap? or sarong?). Then, realizing I was wasting too much time on this dumb skirt, I just pulled it up to my chin. Don't worry, I didn't go out in public (although I think one of you girls could have made it cute with a belt and sandals). But now this skirt is my de facto summer housedress because it is the coolest thing in my closet.
Nice to recycle some old things, yes? Or reinvent old looks, like cutting off another pair of old jeans but wearing them with a rolled up hem. Bonus is, it's environmentally correct. Then today, as I was catching up on some WWDs lying round, I saw this:
I doth protest. I cannot recycle this look. Can you? All you thrifters out there, do you see acid wash in thrift stores? Perhaps soon you will. But who kept their old acid wash? Doesn't acid wash sound environmentally incorrect? Does anybody out there like acid wash? Help, it's really hot outside and all I can think about is acid wash.

Love this post! I am wearing my favorite recycle. Actually it is more of a rescue. I got a cute little Tommy Hilfiger gown (don't laugh) with this sparkly Rolling Stone-esque lip design. The first time I wore it, I got bleach on it-totally ruined. I was so sad and then I thought, well, hell...so I hung it up, spritzed bleach all of it and gave it this spotted, distressed look. I was proud. But I still only wear it around the house. P.S. Thank you for the tag-I answered it tonight!
It's too hot! I do like acid wash, but only if done properly. I have no desire to return to the 80s. Don't wear it with a glow shirt or neons please!
Ah the 80's - bad the first time round definitely! (I was a teenager, I remember) but the thing I love about fashion now is that everybody seems to have learned how to blend the best of vintage and retro looks with a classic modern styling.
We no longer go overboard with a "look" like we did in the 80's. Hell, I wore my acid wash jeans with a pair of pink cowboy boots (complete with tassles) and I had a spiral hair perm (so wrong)!
P.S thanks for the tag. will reply today ;-}
It sounds like a perfect decision. It is so interesting, everything comes back. Yeah...
Great info, thanks!
Hugs from Angel.
love acid wash...
btw, thanks for adding my link!
This is such a great post! Clothing recycle is something I love, but sometimes it is hard to achieve! I love how you turn the skirt into a housedress! It looks so cute and I love that print! It look so fresh!
Acid wash is hard to carry, I mean stylishly! I guess some pastel colour/light floral print may and hopefully work :)
I love acid wash.. AA got some really cute acid wash jeans..
the skirt/dress is really perfect for the summer!
about acid...i don´t know...it´s not for me, but is cool :)
a kiss!!!
I must confess, I do like acid wash if it's done well but only on young skinny hipster girls.
On me it just looks like, um that old lady just pulled out her skanky jeans from high school...she is way too old for them...what was she thinking?
