34th Street Weekend Sale Picks: The Friends & Family Holiday Edition

#1. Esprit
Because their Friends & Family sale is 50% off, Esprit wins the F&F race. Esprit is good to their friends and family, especially the ones who print the coupon below and shop in store (you only get 40% off online).  21 W. 34th Street

#2. Bare Escentuals
Because a sale on cosmetics is pretty awesome, especially when it's Bare Escentuals. Their mascara and Buxom lip gloss is on the top of my recommendation list.  44 West 34th Street

#3. Dr. Jay's
Because you can take 20% off the lowest ticketed price on everything in store (with some exclusions, see store for details) and they have a great selection of winter coats. This isn't technically a friends and family, but I still like it!  17 West 34th Street

Updated to add: if you are a member of the Love, Daffy's club, check your email for a Friends & Family pass for an extra 20% off your entire purchase. Not a member? Go to www.daffys.com and sign up today, as the offer is only good through Tuesday. Daffy's Herald Square is in Herald Center at 34th & Broadway.

Meet Bare Escentuals Master Artist Bravon Pascua

Book a Friday make-under appointment by the end of day Wednesday and get a free gift at the event! Call 212-220-1900 and use promo code "34SP."

This is a big week at the Bare Escentuals boutique in Herald Square, and you will only look more fabulous and glowing because of it. Master Artist Bravon Pascua will be in the store Thursday and Friday with the Bare Escentuals National Artistry Team to give you the best beauty tips of the season.

I know it only says Thursday, but he'll be there Friday, too. The party with food and beverages, however, is Thursday.  What, you're into fine print? Read more details here.

This event continues on Friday the 30th, when from 1-7pm you can meet and greet with The Master (I'm thinking you can just call him Bravon) and get a make-under by a National Artist. Call 212-220-1900 by the end of the day on Wednesday, book a make-under appointment for Friday, use promo code "34SP" (that's us) and you'll get a free gift at your appointment. Nothing like a free beauty gift!

Bare Escentuals Herald Square is Sharing the Love

It's Friends & Family time at Bare Escentuals, so I dropped by the store this morning to pick us all up a card. Print it out, use it at the lovely Herald Square boutique or online, and get 20% off all Bare Escentuals products through Sunday, June 19th.

While you're visiting the boutique, don't miss the new Pretty Amazing lip color. I just put it on and so far yes, it's pretty amazing. It goes on shiny but sets matte.

Also, Bare Escentuals is having a birthday. Get this 5-piece set for $35 ($78 value) to celebrate the line's 35th birthday. So very many beautiful ways to save and get pretty at Bare Escentuals this weekend.

There's a New Foundation in Town

It's all about Matte Now, and beginning tomorrow you can get a free 10-day sample at Bare Escentuals on 34th Street. Print up the above card and bring into the boutique for your free sample. The Bare Escentuals pros will color match for your skin.

I've been gushing about all our new stores on 34th Street lately, but this boutique really is a makeup dream to shop. Everything is so neat, prettily packaged, and well-presented. Then there's the sample pigments. They look so inviting you want to dive into all that mineral color. Let's face it, a girl loves to shop a great makeup store.

More weekend temptations at Bare Escentuals on 34th Street:

New product launches, available in store tomorrow. Click for a closer look. The eye-lining tutorial ($38)? Very helpful. Wish I had that years ago when I'd have to do my own "smoky" cat-eye makeup with 2 pairs of false lashes. I would just slop it on. Oh, the many pots of dark shadow and liquid liner I used to own. Luckily with the Crash Course kit ($22) you'll be able to keep your graphite eyes neat and match them up with shiny pink lips.

And I got a sample of the mascara in store today (full-size Riduculashes, $18). You know how I love reviewing mascara, so soon there will be a follow-up on this new product.

Annnd, there's a gift with purchase this weekend if you book an appointment and spend $35. Lots of excitement round Bare Escentuals on 34th Street this summer. Love the new kid in town.

Update: The Matte Now event runs through August.

34th Street Friday News

Double trouble on 34th Street for you shoe lovers. Work is coming right along with one new store, Geox, and one relocation, Aldo (they are currently right down the street). Looks like both should be open in the fall.

I've finally updated the sales section, so be sure to check it out before you visit 34th Street this weekend. Sorry about the crazy font sizes, but it seems the more I update it the nuttier Blogger gets on me. Anyone else have this issue?

Things to look for this weekend:

Bare Escentuals is phasing out some great kits in July, so look for major discounts on some of your favorites and stock up. For example, you can get The Bare and the Beautiful (above) for just $19.50, down from $71.

Macy's One-Day Sale on Saturday. There will be an extra 25% off clearance. I'm looking today to see if there's any Francis* left on sale, could be a major bargain in the works for one of you.

Gap Design Editions' khaki collection on sale. Get a Swanepoel hat, or the Vena Cava zipper dress. Also, Gap's Perfect Ts are now just $10.

Skinny jeans and leggings right at the front door at Bebe, and these knee-high leather boots (above). Not on sale, but I really, really, really want them.

Banana Republic has new reductions, with some items up to 60% off. They've got some adorable dresses and skirts on sale. That flowing white skirt above is now just $34.99. And now I want to wear the boots with the skirt.

*Francis update: Get thee to Macy's Herald Square tonight or tomorrow and pick up some ridiculous cute Francis on sale, most is 65% off original price. I saw the famous WendyB kilt pin skirt, the incredible graffiti tagged dress, a Nerd Bird vest, the same patchwork blazer seen on Ruby Dee , the Pocket-Square blazer, and the gorgeous color-block dresses.

Buxom and Natural: It's Kismet

After using Bare Escentuals Buxom lip gloss/plumper, I have high hopes for all of their lip glosses. So if you're on 34th Street tomorrow from 11am - 5pm, drop by the Bare Escentuals store for a chance to win one of their 100% natural glosses at their Kismet Beauty Event.

This shade is pomegranate. I'm so buying a pomegranate (or two) this weekend.
Nothing makes me happier than everyone doing natural lines. I'm still pleased with my Victoria's Secret Pink organic and vegan shaving cream. And while I'm talking about product I've written about before, I'd like to do a Fiberwig update: just yesterday, for the first time since I bought it last September, the fibers began to flake off on my face. But aren't we supposed to change our mascara every 6 months or something? So it's probably just telling me to stop being cheap and lazy and go buy new Fiberwig.

Shhh, listen: Is your mascara trying to tell you something?

Buxom For Free

Starting tomorrow through Sunday, June 1st, you get a free Buxom lipgloss when you purchase two RareMinerals products at Bare Escentuals on 34th Street. Normally $18, and who doesn't want big buxom lips? I can't wait to try this.

Go here for Borders coupons good through this weekend. Thanks to my office mate Catherine for finding this on LivingFreeNYC on Twitter.

WendyB's updated post reminded me that the pocket square Francis jacket (left) is now 40% off at Macy's. I saw it yesterday on a 2nd floor sales. It might even be further off this weekend, as there is an extra 10%-20% off this weekend at Macy's Herald Square this weekend. The guys have to visit this weekend, as they get an extra 25% off their entire clothing purchase of $100 or more. Go here to get the coupon.

Last, I updated the thriftnyc section with some newly opened thrift stores from Time Out New York. Check it out if you're coming to town for a visit, or if you're a dedicated thrifter.

Bare Escentuals 34th Street Opening Day

The Bare Escentuals flagship boutique on 34th Street opens tomorrow, and I can tell you the store looks really good from the outside. Below I'm peeking through the window, where I think I see makeup bars. Nice lighting for proper application, too. It looks very soothing in there.

My very professional "through the window" shot.

Go, belly up to the makup bar, and get all pretty in this makeup oasis on 34th Street.

Welcome, Makeup People!

Enough with holidays and the egg nog, here's some real retail news for 34th Street: Bare Escentuals is opening a second NYC store this spring at 44 W. 34th between 5th & 6th. No, this is not the old Kira Plastinina space, that bankrupt bastion of pink is down the block. This one's next to Forever 21 and right down from Gap. And it will be one of the biggest Bare Escentual boutiques in the country.

Do you all use/love Bare Escentuals? I've tested their mineral makeup and was pleased with the results. But I've never visited one of their boutiques so I'm curiously anticipating the opening. Welcome, Bare Escentuals, to 34th Street, and thanks to Crain's New York Business for their breaking retail news and excellent quotage:

"The lineup of retail on that strip is terrific," said Mark Finkelstein, the Retail Strategies president who represented the beauty outfit. "The combination of New Yorkers and tourists there gives [Bare Escentuals] exposure to a broad range of customers."

Dang straight. And hopefully by the end of '09 and into 2010 that strip of 34th Street will get even better. You regulars know what I'm talking about.
