Nanette!

I loved just about the whole enchilada at Nanette Lepore's Fall 2008 show:

  • the models' dark smoky eyes sparkled. Really, makeup by the MAC PRO team and their crystal eyelid studs or whatever the heck they used looked great on the runway;
  • the model direction. These girls all had flirty Mona Lisa smiles and high energy. There were even some very welcome theatrics at the end of the runway;
  • the headband/tiara. Instead of beauty queen, this skewed cool;
  • good mix of textures. Lace, velvet, tweed and beads, all fun, feminine detail but not too girly.
My favorites were the silk stripe shirt dress (top left) & the black silk cardigan with a sequin top and wool skirt. The cardigan looked like a silk sweatshirt and the sequin top is a killer underpinning. And that cassis coat up there is beautiful.

Not a big fan of: her lingerie looks. Not sheer lingerie, like for spring, but lace corset-type lingerie. They were mixed well with other separates, but black lace should be taken in very low doses for outerwear looks. All in all, a successful collection from which there is much to enjoy. And buy.
