I just saw pictures of the Marc Jacobs fall 2008 collection on Fashionista, and I see Gerald and Sara Murphy. At first I thought, ahh, modern Zelda Fitzgerald, but no, it's more refined and less obvious party girl/flapper. That would be Sara Murphy, muse to Picasso, art collector and patroness to artists of many disciplines. And her husband, also probably all of the above, he's all over those pants. Were they Jacobs' inspiration? I wouldn't know this, but he's captured their distinctive style and made it fall 2008. Personally, I couldn't be happier.
For a great book on the Murphys, or just to check out their incomparable taste, read Amanda Vaill's "Everybody Was So Young."
