Duro Olowu for JCPenney Preview

Photos from Duro Olowu

2012 brought us quite a number of successful (and unsuccessful) designer collaborations with retailers that left us yearning for more. When rumors were confirmed that one of Michelle Obama's favorite designers, Duro Olowu, was doing a collaboration with JCPenney, we were beyond excited. Born in Nigeria and based in London, Olowu brings the color and beauty of Africa though his garments. We were fortunate enough to get a sneak peak at his Spring 2013 collection during Fashion Week at an intimate preview at the Stone Rose Lounge. Priced between $10 to $100, everything is super affordable, and offerings include not just clothing but also accessories, luggage. and even home goods. Bookmark your favorites as the collection launches March 1st, and look for them all at our 34th Street JCPenney location in Manhattan Mall.

The prints are bold, tribal, full of movement, and paired perfectly with bright colors. It's a lady-like collection with flowy dresses, ruffled blouses, chic sweaters that exude power and confidence. Here are a few photos of our own from the event:

The lounge was beautifully accented with Duro's vases, frames, and throw pillows. We sipped on special Duro cocktails and munched on hors d'oeuvres over the view of Central Park.

With manicurists on hand, our nails were donned with signature Duro patterns. At the end of the day, we got to take a piece of the collection home. Can't wait to bring out my new bag for spring!
